BulletProof VG motor?

well i have a VERRRRY high mileage VG(260,000+),still runs good but i wanna start seriously modding and racing it,people say sell it and get the VE but i already spent more repairing it than i could get for it because of the mileage..anyway my question is about builing the engine up internally,i know this is expensive, but i make good money and dont have any bills(best part of being a kid)anyway..i wanna build this engine up really strong, maybe raise the compression, get the cattman cams,an angled valve job,but more importantly a bulletproof bottom end, what i wanted to know mostly is about pistons, rings, and rods, any high performance ones for the VG or can 300ZX pistons be mated,my goal is to get just about every imaginable bolt on with head work and higher compression and run a decent (40-60) shot nitrous..and who knows, maybe the fastest VG?any help or referances would be greatly appreciated

do a search, it may take a bit to weed through the crap, but you'll find some usefull stuff here.

If you are concerned about the millage you may want to consider rebuilding your motor or purchacing a used/rebuilt motor. If you purchace a second motor it would allow you to do some modifications to the motor while still driving your car.

i would have to agree with fro on this. your best bet is to get another motor, and build that while you drive your max. otherwise you'll be pressed to get everything done. and it's not fun. i did it with my jeep. never again!

cefiro internals are lower compression right? i believe the make a stroker kit for the 3.0 but it may only be for the VQ. i'm not sure. you could always bore it out. different pistons, then start thinking about the head, 5 angle valve job, ported and polished heads. . .etc. . .as far as building the motor. . . i dunno man. i'm not a VG guy.

well if your going to go that far you might as well try to find a vg30et from a Z31!

yeah, but if you're gonna run a turbo, you're still gonna have to lower compression.

Crower, JE, Arias, etc. .....they all do "custom applications", but its not "off the shelf" stuff like the Honda and Mitsu guys get!

Re: BulletProof VG motor?

If your going NA + nitrous then buy a spare motor. All you have to do is contact JWT and they can get you any part you need. But as far as internals all you really need to do is just get the crankshaft/rods/pistons balanced. The VG30E's made after 5/87 come with forged cranks and rods. Actually if your going that far get a VG33E from a pathfinder and build that up. It has a bigger bore so it would have more torque than an equally modded VG30E. I know that the VG30E cams fit the VG33E so you have unlimited choices for cams. My setup had I been able to do it was VG33E with 11.1CR pistons, balanced bottomend, headwork/valve job, JWT or ISKY cams + ISKY valve springs, 2nd gen maxima intake manifold and 50-60 shot JWT N20 program. I can tell you know this motor is going to cost around $2000-3000 to build. Now a VG30ET runs for $450-900 and can support up to 450hp with race gas without any internal modification. You have to decide between boost or NA+N2o and how fast the boost is going to kill your tranny .

Cefiros got the VQ in 1994 and before that they had the RB block that skylines use now. they never had a VG or VE V6 untill 1994 and then its a VQ. So sorry, no stroker kit

Ok... So VG30EE motor from a pathfinder fits or i mean can be custom fit into a maxima???? What kinda work is this?? As much as the VG30ET motor or more???

I have another question isn't there a super charged pathfinder?? Is this motor also a VG30EE??

I am interested in any more info on this any one has..

Thanks

the vg33E and 30E blocks are all pretty much the same and interchangable for the most part. it is just plug and pray. now the VG33E has a different intake manifold than the VG30E. The new manifold is a dual runner setup similar to the VQ i believe. This may or may not clear the hood line.

Just keep in mind that all of the VG33e motors are OBDII and will require that you hook up a second O2 sensor to comply with emmisions regulations.

NO supercharged pathfinder direct from nissan. The xterra and frontier(2002's) which come with the VG33E come equiped with a supercharger option. It is an eaton roots type blower. To apply this to a max would probably require modification to the hood. If you notice the xterra and frontier both recieved "power bulges" to clear the SC.

You could bastardize the vg30E and turn it into a VG33E through a combination of altering the bore and the stroke. Nismo87se could help you out a bit more with this one than I.

but would you really want a roots type blower? that would be cool to drop that pathfinder motor in a max though. how much HP do they have with the SC?

the supercharged xterra and frontier both put out 210 hp @ 4,800 rpm 246 lb-ft of torque @ 2,800 rpm (231 lb-ftwith manual transmission

the engine in the current pathfinder is a version of the VQ putting down Manual 250 hp @ 6,000 rpm 240 lb-ft torque @ 3,200 rpm
Automatic 240 hp @ 6,000 rpm 265 lb-ft @ 3,200 rpm

in contrast the new altima :
VQ35 240 hp @ 5,800 rpm 246 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm

new max 3.5:
VQ35 255 hp @ 5,800 rpm 246 lb-ft of torque @ 4,400 rpm

This is very intersting to me.. some time I'm thinking of doing a swap I don't know when because of money but i'm hopeing to do it some time...

I like to thought of doing the pathfinder motor swap or the 300z swap but am just trying to learn as much as i can...

What would be the price for a used pathfinder motor and what year would it be that would fit??

I am also interested in the basterize the vg30 and creating a vg33e if you can give me some info nismo87????

This is very interesting....
