Optima Batteries

Which optima battery would be best if i'm putting a system in my vehicle? I thought it would be a yellow, but i hear that yellow is for accessories only..not for starting...any opinions?

The Yellow Top is just fine for starting also.

Also see info at: http://www.optimabatteries.com/using...ionsYellow.asp

I have used a yellow top in my truck for about 2 years now and it's just great.

Optimas suck!!!!

After going through three red top optimas, I can honestly say that they suck. They're good if you never discharge them. The moment that one of the red top batteries get discharge substantially, it will be very difficult to recharge it correctly. The two middle cells usually get overcharged and in turn form a bubble shaped area on top of the battery. This amounts to leaving your headlights on a couple times and ruining your battery. It will never hold a charge the same way again. The yellow top, according to a salesman, must be deep cycled (or discharged completly) on a regular basis, otherwise it will only last a year. Plus it is a major hassle to warranty one of these things out. I have a Westco SVR Audio Deep Cycle now and I love it. I could leave my doors open for three to four days and the battery will always maintain 12V. Spend the couple extra dollars and buy one of these.

All Batteries Suck LOL

I have had nothing but terrific results with Optima and I also have at least a dozen other guys I know run them with no failures reported. That said, all batteries do fail. I have had 1 Excide fail (covered under warranty) and 2 Sears Diehards.

More info on the yellow top:

Maybe call the Optima guys and express your concerns. See what they say. Post the response if you done.

(note: I'm not an Optima zealot but I have had good luck - buy what makes you comfortable )
