it looks like the coolant temp sensor without a harness on it. i don't seem to have a loose harness anywhere. what is it?

Looks like a coolant temp sensor just laying there..

Grab a pair of needle nose pliers and fish it out of there.

man, i wish i had taken a picture when it happened... two weeks after putting in my rebuilt tranny i popped the hood to check the oil and discovered i had been driving around with 2 beer bottles and one beer can stuck in various "cup holders" under the hood. it was dark when my friends and i were putting everything back together. the can had actually been spinning on the a/c belt and the can was almost worn through!

Good stuff. I opened up the oil cap to add a half a quart of oil, then closed the hood with the oil cap down against the valve cover. I drove the damn thing close to 400 miles like that too.

that;s something you'd find very hard to do on a subie EA82 motor. it will barely run if the oil cap is off.

Just to add: Appearently a shop had done some work on my mother-in-law's van and subsequently it started overheating. After taking another look at it, they told my M-I-L that it was a leaking gasket somewhere around the throttle body (a $600 quote was given). She asked me to take a look at it and, as you may have guessed, when they did the original work they failed to retighten one of the radiator hoses. In my efforts, I found a coolant system pressure tester sitting on the intake. I considered it payment in full for retightening the clamp.

LOL...Good stuff! A buddy of mine found a hammer in his engine bay after visiting the shop...Not a very good shop, anyway.

I'll add some more:

I found a huge tire iron in a max I bought; it was inside the car not the engine bay. I also found $20 behind the back seat in my current Max.

slight different but my mom got a new Mustang recently and immdiately hit a buzzard and broke the windshield. I was there when the guy pulled the broken one out. There was an antenna in the cowl where the windshield seals. I guess someone at the factory set it there and then the windshield got sealed on top.
