Car remote starter installation?
Re: Car remote starter installation?
I've done remote starters on a 90SE and 93SE (both auto). It can be done on a 5spd, but it's harder to make it safe.
If you can connect some wires, test voltages (easier than it sounds), and have some patience, it's not that bad.
check my site (link in my sig) for wire colors that you will need
also check out Matt93SE's site: http://www.ee.utulsa.edu/~mblehm/faq...fo/alarm_info/
A few of the wires may be different than the diagrams but that's because some of the wires change colors when they go through the harnesses but this will at least tell you where to look and give you a headstart.
It's a LOT easier on a maxima with a door lock timer (91-94) because you can get the lock/unlock wires there. In the 90SE, I had ot remove the fuse box and reach way into the side panel to fish out a harness that connects all the door wiring to the inside which is a pain but can be done.
Get yourself a $10 sharp point voltage test light. It's a very handy tool for this kind of stuff. A multimeter will work too, but it's harder to use for these applications.
You will need a relay for the starter wires because Nissan uses 2 starter wires (one is a "cold start" wire)
for the relay - pin 85 = ground, pin 86 = main starter wire, pin 30 = 12V power (constant) or you could use the main starter wire here too, pin 87 = 2nd starter wire
post or email me if you have any questions

btw - if you're near Atlanta, let me know and I'd be happy to give you a hand with it

otherwise, I think you would since I dont think the car can start when the security system is still armed
you could add a relay to send a - signal to the factory disarm wire (look on my site for color - it's either light green/black or light green/white but I can't remember for sure right now) when the car tries to start
ie: pin 85 on relay to remote start + starter wire output wire
pin 86 - ground
pin 30 - ground (can tie it to pin 86 wire)
pin 87 - connect to stock disarm wire
when the starter wire gets power, it will turn on the relay and connect ground to pin 87 (disarm)
I've never actually had to do that, but I dont see any reason why it wouldnt work
