Which Battery

I was shopping around for a battery. It ranged from $49 (Plus Start) to $150 (Die Hard). Wonder how much other Maxima drivers are paying for a battery and which one they are buying. My current battery is 6 years old. I think I should change my battery even though it is still good. Cold winter is ahead so thought I should change the battery and gas filter.

personally, I've bought the cheapest battery that is the correct size. but i also know that I'll probably replace it more frequently. I used to buy batteries uber cheap but they have gone up in price big time so who knows what I'll do next time

You can get a red top for about $110. People swear by them, and I've heard nothing but good things. My cousin bought one for his max and can listen to his system with the car off for a while and still start the car right up.

I've used Diehards. They're fine and you can often catch them on sale.

Woah... did you get it used or something? That is an insane price for a yellowtop.

I got my Optima Redtop for free (hookup). It isn't for the Max but it fits. Ground cable just fits though.

That's not saying much. I do that all the time with my 5 year old Interstate battery.

optima=interstate=diehard=duralast=90% of the battery market.

Make your decision based on how long you plan to have accessories turned on without the engine running

I bought a Die Hard Gold Battery Group 35 battery on April 14th, 1998 at the local Sears for $86.99 when my Maxima had 80K miles.

Today is November 15th, 2007, which is 115 months later. The battery is still fine and the car has 189K miles now.

This battery has lasted longer than any battery I've ever had. I would definitely buy it again.

Optima RedTop over here and havent had problems other than my alternator hitting a spike and overcharging it at 16.75 volts but thats not the battery's fault so I got it replaced.

Other than that I can play music for hours and still turns on like nothing. As Brian mentioned, there's Johnson Controls (JCI) and Exide which I believe now makes Die Hard...they seem to switch off from what I've noticed. Either way as long as you get Any of these you're fine. Optima, Interstate, DieHard, those are my top and only three.

I have a Champion spiral cell battery (similar to an optima). It has more cca than a standard battery.

It came with the car and now it is about 7 years old and still very strong. I have the original receipt for it somewhere. IIRC, it was about $120.

I have been very happy with it and would recommend them. By comparison, my 2001 qx4 original battery died when I was out of town about 2 years ago. It was on a Sunday and few places were open. I found a phone book and called dozens of places to find somewhere with a battery. The closest thing was a wal-mart with the full service bays. I bought the recommended battery for the Q, figuring it was probably some rebranded battery from a company I trust. After 2 years and maybe 20k miles, it is weaker and it leaks. I have been cleaning it monthly and trying to reset the caps so they don't leak.

6 years is pretty good for a battery! You are right to consider looking for a new one. I've put $50 batteries from Wal Mart in the Max and they didn't last 3+ years. Recently switched back to NISSAN OEM batteries from the dealer for both my 300ZX and 93 GXE. The last two NISSAN OEM batteries in the 300ZX lasted 7 years each. I went the same route on my latest 93 GXE battery. For $80 from the dealer, not a bad deal if I can get 6 to 7 years out of it. Of course, the Max doesn't have any major mods or electrical upgrades that might warrant a high end aftermarket battery.

My real advice would be to stay away from the cheap stuff if you plan on holding onto the car.
