cheap superchargerd

so i come across some electric superchargers. they claim to put out 2-3 psi, well so out of boredness i was like what the hell. i bought 3 of them. hooked one up, it put out about 3 psi, i was like wow. so i got this stupid idea to hook all 3 of them up, given there was no room we took off the hood and after many hours we got all 3 wired and hooked up, had to add an extra battery. well it puts out 6-7 psi when i measured it at idle( i assume it will go down as you give it throttle) but after driving it it did a significant increase in hp. i might actually leave them in.

the electric supercharger was a good idea, i've even considered the possibilities before i learned of the existing technology....but it is also an idea that is hard to efficiently put into motion.

they require more batteries, and don't really put out enough pressure to be worth the money spent, and the added weight.

i just happened to have read an article abotu the first guy to try it back in the 60s/70s and was pretty interesting, yet dissappointing. i do have better ideas about how to make it function using less energy, and producing more pressure, but that is for another time

Well - I stay at 1375m above sea-level, and would simply love to have the about 1.5lb pressure drop because of hight negated and my car perform as when at sea level, so 3lb would be nice if it can be made to be reliable.

Guess the KS will be a busy fellow with such an installation, because the problem is you need timing/fuel etc etc adjusted accordingly and I don't know where you will cheaply find higher octane fuel to run on permanently.

Could you put it on a switch so you can turn it on when you need it?

Like KITTs Boost (Knight Rider for those born in the 90s)

How much did it cost you?

Not to mention "jump" capabilities.

I bet that light that made the swooshing noise made it faster, too.

lol, nothing wrong with knight rider. not the greatest special effects but for its time good( altho u could sometimes see the drivers arms and hands when KITT was driving himself, etc.). that is one sweet ride.

How did you measure the pressure produced? Claimed psi * N s/c?

stupid idea to buy one of those cheap electric stuperchargers, yes. just as stupid as buying one of those little "RACING CHIP! ADDS HP!" pieces of junk.

to make an efficient electric supercharger, you're gonna have to basically build one yourself to get it right.....aftre plenty of research on previous patent downfalls and whatnot.

i think electric is the way to go on a supercharger, because you're not actually 'robbing' power from the engine, to make power.....like a supercharger adding drag, and a turbocharger adding backpressure in the exhaust system. while an electric s/c is still not 'free' power, persay, it is still free-er than conventional chargers.

well there is significant loss of energy to heat even with electronics. Like the bearings on the alternator, and the alternator belt, just to name a few. I would like to see someone run a leaf blower tho.. but I don't know how many watts those use. I know that it would take a heft of juice though.

caped....leaf blower......gas powered, note the 'noisy' part. x;

my dad put a leafblower on his charger back in the day just to play around, and said it worked good, but wasnt practical ;x

and abotu the loss of heat to energy....heatsinks and more cooling methods to the dc motors on the s/c and alternator if need be.

if you're cooling the dc motor for the s/c, then you just need to remote mount the motor iself, in a cooler location with more airflow, and then run the prop shaft to where it needs to be.

Best mod yet and no one rip me off.

1. Crank AC on high
2. Route ducts into INTAKE!

COLD FORCED AIR! The blowe in your airbox is greater and COLDER then the ebaycharger!

thanks for experimenting the electric supercharge. I was wondering how bad the electric supercharge was, since it was cheap in ebay.

Now here's a cool idea...

Anyone remember this idea that Ford came up with?

"With the SuperCooler system, the vehicle’s air conditioning system is used to chill a small storage tank of coolant to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

On demand, the SuperCooler system switches the intercooler flow from its normal circulation and dumps the chilled coolant into the engine’s intercooler. In turn, the intercooler dissipates up to 20 percent more heat from the charge air – resulting in a denser air charge.

As a result of this cool technology, the SVT Lighting concept can give its driver as much as 50 transient horsepower for short bursts of 30-45 seconds and regenerate within 2 minutes under normal driving conditions. While its effect is similar to that of an aftermarket nitrous oxide system, the SuperCooler is completely self-contained, environmentally friendly and regenerative."

Here's the link, I thought it was so cool when I first heard about it.

lol. i guess you didn't read my type, matt. stupid electric superchargers are so far the best way to create free boost. and if done properly, by yourself, would be excellent.

i'm not siding with helps, as he's the one who bought the ebaycharger. probably tried the "HP RACING CHIP!!!" too. ;x.....but i am siding with the theory of electric superchargers for practical application, not just ricer fcukwads.

This thread is nothing but a waste of bandwidth any way,so you might as well save it buy posting pictures of your turbo'd maxima

Or I will start you another thread specifically for your turbo pics..

Or i can edit the title of this thread so it includes turbo pics..

C'mon dude...post um up..
