VERY Impressive workmanship!!!!! I think some of the other perfectionist here have some WORTHY competition.
3 ???
I dont see the driver plate reinforcement thats supposed to be behind the flywheel (maybe I'm a bit like S.Wonder)
Your Fwheel is an aftermarket pc. How was the steel friction insert resurfaced, wasnt it supposed to be replaced? I need to do the same to my Fidanza and was told that the friction plate can be replaced.
Is that a 5th gen clutch kit?
Thx

It should hold fine, i know of 5 or 6 motors that me and my friends built for their cars and we used the same paint.

Yeah after I installed the flywheel (65 lb foot with red lock tight) and clutch I realized that I forgot to install that plate. I was lazy and cold because it was snowing, so I decided to cut it in half. Instead of it being shaped like an O, it's now shaped like two C's. It worked just fine, but it made it more difficult to install the tranny.
It's a Fidanza as well.
As far as the flywheel being resurfaced... I did some searching on here and someone (I think it might have been nealoc) said that you can resurface it once before you need to replace the friction plate (of course depending on how worn the flywheel is). I had the machine shop resurface the whole face of the flywheel (not just the friction plate), so that the pressure plate would have the same amount of pre-load. I thought that there might be a problem when I do end up replacing the friction plate because it would not be flush with the outer face of the flywheel, but then I realized that I could just put spacers in between the pressure plate and the flywheel face.
It's not a fifth gen clutch, it's an ACT. The disc that was in there before was the older style ACT disc, I believe...

Yeah she sure does look pretty. Thanks!!
She runs perfect. It couldn't run any smoother or quieter. It's quite a bit more powerful too.
I did advance the timing a little bit more than you had it because my elevation is 5500 ft.
BTW, nice spark plugs you put in there. lol

good job and it does look clean... how are the VTCs and injectors?
when i did my motor, i also painted various parts with the rattle can 500 degree paint and it did not last long, and i sanded and added multiple coats too... maybe youll have better luck but next time im gonna use caliper paint, if not, powdercoat

IIRC, I paid $1k plus shipping (NJ-NM) for it.
It took me about 1.5 weeks to do everything. 1 day to pull, 1.5 days to put in, and alot of time prepping the new motor. Working in 20 degree weather when it's snowing and the car's in the driveway makes you work a little bit slower. Plus there's not much daylight down here in NM in the winter time.

Awsome job! How long did it take you to do the different parts of the job: i.e. take out, clean up, paint, re-install? I am thinking to do the same to my car soon since it needs front and rear main seels, etc. but I would like to calculate down time first.
Also, a thought- would you consider sanding the raised letters on the valve cover, "NISSAN", so that it would shine through silver? I think that would look good with the fresh black background.
Thanks again for the inspiration.

Mine was broken when I bought it (I knew about it). The bolt tack welded to the frame of the dash had been knocked off, so the pedal was flopping around. I had someone "fix" it for me and add an extra bracket up there, too.
The engine and the work look outstanding. If it wasn't snowing outside right now, I would want to take my Max for a little spin after seeing that. Looking at nice 3rd gens makes me want to drive mine!

Did your clutch pedal bracket break?

Ya, I think you can also then cover the machined metal with a glossy clear to protect it, and that would give it a nice factory appearance. Just a thought...

IIRC, the timing was at 25* BTDC base..thats where it stopped making power on the dyno.

I live in New Mexico... I have one vtc that has already been rebuilt by me that I can sell to you. It's not really possible for me to install it/them on your car, but I can send you one maybe two rebuilds... PM me

hmm..i never ran those plugs. they might have been in there to just keep the crap from building up inside while it sat. who knows, i always used stock plats. its been so long i dont really remember pulling plugs out of it.
