I reuse motor oil for at least 3 changes. Seems alright with me to reuse tranny oil. I dunno, worked for me.... It's not like oil breaks down or anything.
Can anyone tell me about the bmw headlight conversion?

It might help if you edited or restated your first post so that it makes sense. I don't think we understand exactly what you said.
Are you saying that your transmission was leaking for a long time and you kept putting in new fluid, so now that the leak is fixed should you replace all the fluid with new or just use the fluid that's there?
Seeking clarity..........

So are you asking, since you've constantly been adding new oil to it, is it necessary that you refill with new since the oil in there isn't all that old? To answer your question blatantly, yes. Go ahead and use new oil. The other responses in this thread weren't all that necessary and sometimes it's a lot easier to give a straight answer.
If you're asking because sometimes automatic trannies, when they're dying, and someone does a flush and refill that "kills" them. Than stick with what you have in there, but the VE automatics are much stronger than VG trannies, so just use your best judgement.
Again, clarity is key when asking a question.

Thanks 94maximashima it seems when you dont change the trans fluid for a few yrs like 6yrs just adding new fluid to top off might not be enough when you change the tranny oil filter, ive heard that if you put new fluid after you drain it it kills the tranny, so i was looking for advise abt putting new fluid in i went ahead and put 3 qts of new and the rest recycle fluid, the tranny is working ok thanks to everybody for their help.

Oil breaks down and loses it's protective properties. How do you see logic in using old oil? The only time where I've seen an auto go out after and oil change is when the car was never maintained in the first place. If it fails after an oil change it was on it's way out to begin with.
In all my autos, I never let the tranny go anything after 50k for a tranmission fluch. I have 2 auto right now, had 3 in the past, and Never had a automatic transmission fail.

are there 2 different trans on the VG? I swear my last 3rd gen had a pan on the bottom. This one doesn't. I agree with the other posts here. You are not going to get a definite yes or no regarding flushing, or just draining etc. If it has high mileage I and no prior regular service then I would just do a drain and refill. But if you have a transmission that's going out, then I would try whatever. (it's going out so it's worth a shot) I had an Accord with 196,000 and no service on the tranny. It would stick in 2nd and slam into O/D. Took it in for a drain and refill. The guys at the shop said it would probably go out but I figured what the hell. I put a quart of Lucas in and that thing shifted perfect for the next 2+ years I had it.

I can only find 2 autos for the 3rd gen: the vlsd and non-vlsd. I think the vg only had the non- tranny, but i could be wrong...
which should mean the auto trannies are all the same(for the vg)

U are right about oil not breaking down...and we reused our oil for diesel engines I worked on while in the USAF. But we ran the oil through a centrifuge to get the impurities out before recyling it back to the engine.
