Hey guys:
What is the one part or parts you have had to replace, and then replace again over the years.
On my ve
1. Fuel pumps,I've replaced this item 3 times in 8 years,I'm not sure if it was simply defective replacement pumps from idiotzone(airtech brand) or if i have some sort of electrical issue going on..
2. Alternators..on my 3rd alty in 8 years...this issue is most likely a defective part issue(Advance auto parts altys)
anyone else?

Looks like it's just you and me in this thread so far, Wayne...Ha!
Anyway, I have Hankook HR Ventus II tires size 225/50R17 mounted on 2K3 SE rims...check out my sig, yo! Anyway, I will be needing new ones once the snow melts and I plan on replacing them with the exact same thing. Great grip, relatively long life for a performance tire, and pretty affordable...As I recall $107 a piece from a tire dealer although I found them for $366 for a set of 4 at tirerack.com (I think).

Um lets see
1) fuel injectors
2) fuel injector o rings (are personally made by the devil IMO)
3) window switches
Those are the things I just cant seem to keep working right. I do everything right on the injector and one always leaks. Im about ready to swap to a 2nd gen setup! Ive replaced fuel injectors on my 240 and its really easy, maxima, and Im ready to destroy something.
And the friken window switch, I cant find a master switch that will let me use every single window w/o reaching over to that particular one. And I have like 5-6!!!

as far as the injector issue goes...Maybe you suck at teh fixin?
For the the issue was the alternator...yes, I went through 6 Bosch lifetime warranty alternators in less than a year. God bless that short I had for messing up all those regulators. Other than that.. its all good now I hope
I'd say swaybar links have been replaced twice in a total of 2 years and so have the brake pads but thats just wear and tear stuff

For the VG... Still on stock injectors and running strong. Front two windows have had regulators replaced twice. Transmission was rebuilt once, now it has a different rebuilt one in it. Had a problem with the tail light circuit boards frying...
VE...
Only had it a year and all it's really needed was a new ECTS, Radiator, and a rear window reg. Everything else was just me babying it.
I've been lucky with the fuel pumps/injectors.

LOL
It's not the 7000rpm that kills them, it's not having timing map for a knock condition.
I've replaced the following items since I bought my second 3rd gen:
-Engine (didn't NEED to be replaced)
-Clutch disc (again, didn't NEED to be replaced)
-Coolant temp sensor
-Brake pads
-Tires
-ISB
-JWT ecu (lol)
-Clutch slave cylinder (note: AZ slave cylinder=
)
-KS
-VTC's
That's all that I can think of right now...

it's not the alternator, it's that a good rebuild costs $200+ and most people don't even want to spend $100 on it, so they get whatever rebuilt is cheap and replace it 20x because it has a "lifetime" warranty.
all lifetime warranty means is that you'll be replacing it for the life of the car.

Alty's been replaced like 3 times, but current one has been working great for the past 6-7 years. Transmission has been built twice, though the first time was done at a half a**ed job. You get what you pay for I guess.

though now they have come down in price to about $180 iirc..
I sell third gen parts and my hottest items have been altys, starters and window regsulators. The biggest request of course is the auto transmission. The biggest reoccuring problem is with the lighting. The tails the head lts. and signals. Iv'e owned about six third gens. for my own personal use and the lighting thing is the common thread that bond them together.
Had to replace the 2 small relays on the window control panel 3 times in 8 years in order to restore proper window control - and I suspect they are due again soon ..............
No other item on my vehicle required a regular seeing-to or replacement

ive also gone through 2 az slaves
on my 2nd az drivers side axle
had 1 maf fail
a few injectors
a few coil packs
still on the stock alternator and starter
ofcouse tires and brake pads and rotors and one rear caliper
2 window regulators
a heater core
just got finished installing engine number 4 today but i dont know if that counts also on
4th trans but the previous owner also replaced it once so really on its 5th

Aside from normal maintenance (wiper blades, oil changes, air filter, brakes, timing belt, tires, etc..) the only parts I had to replace more than once were:
- Headlight bulbs - No big deal
- Exhaust Manifold Studs - Wish I could say no big deal, but it was a big deal. First time was at 81K miles. Second time was at 179K miles.
Still on the original alternator.
Some other things I replaced were (only once so far):
oil pressure switch
engine mounts
shifter bushing
struts
CV halfshafts
battery
Left Rear Window Regulator
2 fuel injectors
theromstat
distributor (my fault, though)
According to my records, I changed the oil & filter on this car 43 times

I'd say fluid leaks are my #1 problem and always have been. Auto tranny leaked when I bought the car, M/T leaks at passenger-side axle seal and always has (will be fixed when LSD is installed), stock calipers leaked, replaced with used Q45 calipers, now they leak and are off the car being rebuilt right now, oil pan used to leak, front main seal has small leak, P/S system has small leak, but both only leave a drop on the ground here and there...it just pisses me off when I look under the car and see wet spots here and there...
Oh, and some sort of fuel leak from a line between the filler neck and tank, and a small fuel leak earlier this year on a dry-rotted fuel line near the injectors...And an exhaust leak at the manifold when a couple of studs sheared.
No coolant leaks, tho...knock on wood...

wiper blades. and i really do mean that. my current set (bosch microedge 21" & 20") went bad after 2 weeks of use.
now, I need several things, such as TIRES, brakes (reardisc coming SOON.. front rotors could use help) bushings, rack boots or just a rack, struts (monroes on there now
), a/c clutch bearing, ps pump, everything exhaust-related BUT the manifolds......

I haven't had anything fail frequently. Each item has been one-time only.
My replacements have been:
Engine (due to clacking VTCs, not a bad engine)
Transmission (ISB, I think trans is still good)
One coil pack (First engine -- rear one)
Coolant temp sensor (the only problem to ever actually throw a code)
two window regulators (both driver side)
o-ring gasket on stock y-pipe (replaced it with Cattman Y install)
replaced broken clutch pedal bracket (like that when I bought it)
There were some other problems I never actually had to fix, but were done when I added a modification or replaced something else. A lot of things were replaced with the JDM engine (new studs, seals, gaskets, hoses, etc). Jeffy does good work.
For example, my leaky rear seal was replaced when MrGone and I installed the Fidanza/ACT. It was leaking into the tranny, so I didn't even know it was a problem. The original clutch had 148k on it, so I knew that was needing to be done.

front side marker/turn illuminator housing on many NOS units are not properly glued together, and stick out along the trailing edge? The original
item is flush where it connects with the fender.
As far as "most replaced" items, (and I bought my '89 new right off the
lot as they were prepping it to be the dealership manager's demo),
my list reads as follows:
1. Front window regulators twice-- (both sides)
2. Alternator 6 times. Same story as others; reman units stink!
3. Fuel injectors (all six, one time) Made a big difference!
4. Starter twice.
5. Automatic Transmission twice; (junk yard replacement lasted 8
months) went with a reman after that.
6. Windshield wiper arm bushings (base of each arm)
7. Rear window regulators once.
8. Injector pressure relief valve twice.
9. Master cylinder once.
10.Front wheel bearings once.
11.Front brake rotors with cross drilled aftermarket units.
12. Accelerator cable once.
13. Driver side axle twice.
14. Passenger side axle once.
15. Gas tank-- ruptured pulling off road to let a fire truck pass.
16. Front lower control arm bushings.
17. Struts twice.
The car is an '89 GXE automatic with about 240,000 miles on it at present; is driven hard all the time.

the only thing I've replaced in my car more than once (aside from normal wear items like the brakes and oil and CV joints) is the transmission.
2nd set of wheel bearings, OEM alternator & AC compressor, original master window switch, replaced all window regulators..
I've done the regular rounds of stuff you'd expect for a car with nearly a 1/4 million miles on it.. only thing that's been a hassle is the transmission.
But then again I also look at how I drive it... when you treat it like a race car, you're going to go through transmissions on a regular basis.

nothing is wrong with aftermarket companies as a whole, it's that some companies and stores look to cut corners to save pennies and make their money. it's cheaper to lifetime warranty a part than it is to make a quality part.

Other issues have been:
- Waterpump replaced (and timing belt and thermostat, since I was in there)
- Steering rack and outer tie rods replaced (+ alignment)
- Leaking high pressure hose for steering replaced
- Passenger side CV axle
- New battery
- Tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv valve)
- Knock sensor replaced
- Front brake rotors, pads, driver's side caliper replaced
- Rear drums and shoes replaced
- DSR & PSF window regulators replaced
- Cracked windshield replaced (OEM w/ HUD replaced with clear Aftermarket)
- Bose HU and amps (replaced w/ aftermarket- Alpine HU and Rockford Fosgate speakers)
- Master window switch (replacement doesn't work either)
- Leaking fuel hose replaced
- Fuel filter replaced twice
- Stock y-pipe w/ leaking flex section replaced w/ aluminized steel WSP y-pipe
- O2 sensor replaced
- Drive belts replaced
- Wipers replaced a few times
- Oil and Filters
- Air filter replaced with conical cleanable type (HAI)
- Tires
- HL bulbs
- TL and Side marker bulbs
- Upper radiator hose and small hose going to thermostat replaced
Things that need replacing or fixing that I haven't gotten to but mostly have the parts for:
- PS pump (have used unit)
- LCA bushings (have 4th gen poly bushings to install)
- Ball joints
- Lower radiator hose and other hoses
- Engine and tranny mounts (have 80D poly to fill them with)
- DS CV axle (need part)
- E-brake cable (need part)
- Struts (and maybe mounts)- have Koni reds and Eibachs to install
- Radiator (plastic case on top at NISSAN logo cracked, patched w/ JB Weld)
- Stone hole in DS HL (patched w/ epoxy), to be replaced w/ Clear Euros or wait for E36s
- Lower part of PR CAI to be installed along w/ Stillen Intake Filter
- UDP and belts
- Blehmco ground wires TBI
- I35 Sport 6-spoke 17x7" wheels and slightly used Michelin 225/45/17 Pilot Sport AS tires- 3 mounted, 1 waiting for bent wheel to be repaired.
- ER34 Skyline tails and E32 folding mirrors TBI
- Sliding sunroof cover is warped and doesn't slide easily, could use replacement
- Auto Shifter bushing needs replacing
- Main front and rear seals are leaking and probably other gaskets, like VCs, Oil pan, cam seals, etc. should be replaced
Well, I think that's about it. It seems like a lot now that I list it all. I don't remember it being that much before, other than normal wear and tear. I think I'm lucky considering I have a VG auto and nothing has gone wrong with the tranny yet. Of course, I can't remember ever flushing the tranny and I don't have a tranny cooler yet, so I think I will be doing both those things ASAP! (knock on wood

Do you think the VGs have fewer "big" problems than the VEs? (aside from the auto tranny, of course)
Anyway, thanks for letting me put all this down in "black and white".

Other than that, these VE engines were always breaking.
