My CEL and OIL lights were on as you can see from the video. My EGR control solenoid was bad and i changed it the evening, good again. It had a open circuit when i tested the resistance. the new one measures 33.2 ohms. that cured my problem. For the oil light, i haven't connected the wire yet. The schematic is telling me a yellow wire, but i don't see that wire, i might have to take out the cluster to find it. Apart from that the engine is running perfect. I just have to put back my stabilizer bar with links, i keep getting a lot of wheel hop because it's missing. And it also seems like it wants to go it's own way because th front ain't stabilized.

and the questions begin...
how did you get the ecu/engine to cooperate with the gauge cluster?
what tranny did you use?
are there any pics of the build/install?
how did you do the axles(swap hubs, build customs, etc)?
can you share any info on how to do the wiring?

more to come...

I got the wiring diagram for both cars. I spliced the wires together. I have a list of all the wires, i'll try my best to post the info.
I used a 95 tranny.
i have about 5 pics, i'll post them up over the weekend, not a lot though.
For now i'm using a 95 axle on the driver side and a 2001 on the passenger. The hubs and control arms are 95, but i had to cut a piece of the control arm for it to work, so i don't like that setup too much.
I am going to get the hub side of some 93 axles and join them to the gearbox side of the axles i have. I will then use back the 93 hubs and control arms so i will have a more solid suspension without any cutting of the control arm. The reason for doing all this is that my car has ABS, and the ABS gears on the 95 axle does not line up with the 93 hub sensors. I just use the 95 and up axle because i assume the shaft are stronger IMO. 95 and 93 hubs and control arms can't be matched because the ball joint shaft is a different sizes.

As for the wiring, that's a lot of info so i will have to sit down and organise something for it to be clear.

Both links in #194 worked for me. Both links in #198 did not saying that they had been removed.

The videos aren't very good (not a criticism) but they do show something other then a VE or VG sitting in the engine bay and purring. It looks sweet and I wish I had time, money and space to do a swap like that.

Nice job!

I love you. 16 posts and you have a VQ awap... where have you been all my life?

But seriously, if you don't post a write up I'll find out where you live and kill you. And then I'll steal your car. And then I'll post a write up about how I did it.

due to the most common failures known on VE cars (specifically VE auto, because i have yet to see a VE-5 at a JY) would a JY VE motor be considered trustworthy if the car does not appear to have been wrecked? usually just a failed VE tranny? or should it be avoided for fear of total-VTC-failure-killed-the-valves or something? my JY does not write the motor/tranny status on the car, and only have one or two VEs, so if i plucked a VE motor i'd have to know it was going to work, or else spend all the time swapping it in only to get a refund because "we only have 1 of that motor on hand". a VE motor swap is something I have maybe thought of doing in the future (several years out) just for kicks, as a 2nd car. of course i'd rather find a VE-5 to get the tranny with it rather than oddly putting a VG tranny on a VE.... but whatev, i guess i gotta go with what i can get ahold of. and remember what years to ask for parts for as it would be kinda... crazy with so many different years' parts.

VEs end up in the JY usually because people get scared of the VTC clack from my understanding. that and bad injectors

so if i ever decide to get one, just pluck it, toss in new VTC springs, freshen it up an bit (injectors and such) and get to the swapping? sounds like a plan.... a long-term plan that is. tho i'd much rather find a RUNNING rust-belt VE-5 whose body is disgusting and rusted and put the drivetrain in a nicer southern-raised shell (vg or ve, doesn't matter, as long as i have the VE parts car to take stuff from)

Caped, if I may make a suggestion....find you a 92-94 car you are wanting to swap the motor in to. I am still working through differences in wiring from the 90 to 93 swap. Trust me, you will thank me.

Nice work man!

I just noticed very slight vtc clack in my newer VE and if it gets louder, I may just be doing VQ35 swap too.

Yes, you will still have to swap all the wiring under the hood, but you won't have all the discrepancies that I have on the 90.

Yes, that would be the question! Please do include everything that is necessary to swap in these engines into our cars! I just got done putting my car back together after having is set on stands for the past 6 months or more, and it responds well but could definitely use another ~100hp. By installing VQ3.5 into our 3rd gens that should bring them up to date performance wise with the other new Maximas and similar cars thereby making them "keep-worthy"

Also, wouldn't a 6spd manual tranny fit on this?

Even a VQ30 w/VI would be an upgrade IMO but that 3.5 swap is sick.

By "built" I mean something that some of us could do in our garage, most likely to a swapped in 3.5 from '02-'08.

Mounting the engine is the "easy" part even if welding/cutting is needed. It's a bit naive to expect to be able to 'drop' in a vq35 using just an assortment of various stock mounts/crossmembers and having it 'bolt in'. I'd be highly surprised if there weren't some custom mounts rigged up. But again, that's the easy part. The hard part is all the wiring and making everything (all the little things) operate like they should. My brother and I are finishing a d16z6 into a 1st gen. Civic (originally carbureted, very bare bones) that required firewall modification, frame rail modification, custom mounts all around, custom crossmember, custom shift linkage, pedal modification, and of course going from a carburetor system to fuel injected. The engine is all in and it starts up/runs but I wouldn't call the swap a 'success' just yet because it's not on the street driving.

Kudos to the guy that did the swap but to (reluctantly) play devil's advocate I would like to see the car driving. Not calling BS but from my experience making the jump from an engine sitting in a bay to one that actually operates the car on the street is the difficult part. Would also like to see the VQ35 without the plastic covering on the heads and intake manifold.
