Getting alarm/remote start but first!!!.......

Alright so searched a bit but no luck. Hope you guys have teh answer(s) I seek.

Alright so I finally got my stock alarm working this past summer/fall after rewiring just about the whole damn harness under dash and fender.

So I'm interested mainly in a remote start but want to keep my stock alarm. I'd like to be able to arm/disarm with the remote and I'm assuming this is done by locking and unlocking doors...

A lot of alarm shops I've questioned have stated they dont know but can find out once stuff is taken apart. Only one shop told me it was possible but I dont know...

So summary:
I want remote start while keeping fully functional stock alarm and, I want:
*be able to roll windows down, open trunk, lock/unluck with keyless doorpad
*be able to roll windows down, open trunk, lock/unluck with remote and make sure remote arms/disarms alarm just like keypad.

Anyone have experience with this? I really want this but only if I can keep my stock features

thanks

Dang, dude! You don't ask for much, do you?

I do know that on a manual tranny, most shops will not even consider remote start due to the safety features of the clutch. To be honest, my light in the dash still flashes like my factory system works but I think it was bypassed to get the aftermarket to function properly. Good luck.

Why do you need the stock one still intact? Bypass it with the new one and your good to go. I don't even know if their are alarms out there that allow you to do everything your asking PLUS keeping the factory one still active. In my experience, in the alarm shop I use to work at, I only saw one type of alarm that does this but it only gave you the lock/unlock feature.

man, oh man,

def ditch the factory alarm, the one you buy will work the same, and work better, there is no reason to use the factory alarm.

as far as pop trunk should be no problem as long, cuz the 92+ have the elictrical poper anyway.

remote start? idk but i think ur 5spd, and if so dont waste your time, i was going to get a remote start and there is only 1 safe way to get it on a 5spd, u have to get a special module, that will make you leve the car in N, and leve it running, the lock the doors and be outside, then with the remote, cut the car off, this is the only way it will remote, start, its a pain in the ***.

window roll down and up , is a ***** have to get modules for each window.

btw, i have a Hornet, 2 way with 1 lcd remote, its just a alarm , and i love it.!!!

LOL! when'du get the 5 speed swap, john? ur GF give it 2 ya as a get well present?

anywho, I have not heard of an aftermarket alarm that would allow you to use the keypad. mebe you could run them both, to allow use of a fob and the keypad. havent heard of any alarms that work in tandem with the oem.

Well, reason I want stock alarm is cuz I just prefer things to be and sound stock. I actually prefer the stock horn over the after market horn. I dont know...I just, iono I'm ****in weird ok

I wish I had a 5spd installed as a get well present from my gf too But I know people with 5spds that have remote starts and no problems at all.

I guess another thing to consider is.... I know of a lot of people that have had issues with after market alarms going bad or the wiring for whatever reason then they cant even start their car. Doubt that would happen with RS+stock alarm.

So I take it that no one has kept most of the GXE keypad features while having an alarm or remote starter eh?

no reason to kep factory alarm, as it is teh gay.

remote start with a 5spd is as simple as bypassing the clutch switch...but you would have to be careful, and not an idiot leaving it in gear.....my truck has a clutch bypass switch so that i can stand outside of the trunk and reach UP UNDER THE DASH (yes, it's that lifted.) and start it. without pushing the clutch.

and you could wire up your own window control crap if you knew how to wire the switch control wiring into the control module for the alarm....but thats deep electronic shi(-f)t.

Just wire the new alarm to your stock horn if you're concerned about the way it's gonna sound.

ok so ur auto then, i would see rs as no problem then, in fact im putting it on 92 my se auto,

but like i guess ur thinking, for my red 92, im only putting a remote start and keyless, no alarm, so its still going to use the stock alarm because i did not but the remote start, and alarm, its going to be my moms car and she dont need a flashy alarm, just rs hahhaah

and the window roll up and down with remote is a total *****, you will have to add modules at each window, its not simple as giving power to the window motor to make it roll up or down, it has to be a switch that will cut off when the window us fully down or up, otherwise it will stay on and totally be gay.

i, too, have been looking for a solution like this. i don't think you guys realize how convenient that keypad is. i can go to the park, beach, or where ever, lock all my valuables inside (including my keys) and not have to worry about anything getting lost or stolen.

unfortunately, with all the functions that i want in an alarm, i don't think it's possible.

i have done the auto start with manual and one main company offers the kit for a manual and that is Compustar and they guaranty there alarm as well it has auto start with lock unlock while still keeping the factory anti theft in the car also has a built in turbo timer but as for windows roll down your gonna have to wire in like 3 or 5 extra relays to be able to do that with the alarm. no matter what most companies dont offer the roll up roll down for windows because of all the extra wiring it take. i know that viper used to offer it.

the alarm is model - 2w900fmr and it runs $550 installed by any shop or if your lucky like me and can find it without install i spent $380 and did te full install myself. but not for the inexperienced or not knowing electrician. takes alot of research for all the wires plus 6 hours of installing it and tucking and hiding all wires.

ya ok good luck there are a few wiring diagrams here and there online but none are complete for the kit i installed and u cant call compustar and ask them for the install info as they will ask for a dealer number and only if your lukcy like me would you make a friend from the tech department who gives you all the info you need incase you cant figure out this or that lol. its not an easy task to install an expensive alarm as the compustar 2w900fmr. ive rewired the whole under dash as well for a wire i had install incorrectly that fried the whole main harneess, but that was in my first maxima and that was also the autotragic now i have the 5 speed VE 93 max.and trust me ive alredy went into this car and redone my door lock timers rewired in correctly side markers and also bmw 5000k white CCFL angel eye to my bmw e36 headlights.also redid the wires to ground the VTC's Rewired the TPS connector, wired in aftermarket fog lights into factory harness. and i think thats all the wiring i have done so far lately.

time and patience and you can install any alarm.
The FSM has all the wiring diagrams he'll need, and a test light will answer most questions anyhow.

in my mind there is NOTHING complex about installing an alarm, I think it's tougher to undo all the wiring that the installers put in when I want to get rid of the alarm the right way.

yeah but alot of the maxima wires are a negative signal while some others are positive signal. its confusing and i am not doubting that john will prolly wire a wire or two backwards as i did and figure it out as i tested the alarm once i was finished and realized i had the wrong signal wired up like it was wired positive and was suppost to be negative lol

that test light is diode protected so the circuit is safe.
I also find them easier to use than a meter.

how many omhs of resistance is that test light because only real good test light is a snap on highest amount of resistance in the test light to protect the line from allowing to much amperage to pass and toast electrical compnents

no clue how many ohms resistance, but since I'm not probing the ECU, I'm not worried about it.

i agree but if your doing auto start you will be probing a wire that goes to the ecu. u have to go to the ecu to get the tach signal.

Installing it myself would not be a problem, If I'm stuck, I've got my girlfriend's father which has quite a nice amount of knowledge on electrical considering thats his strong point.

I've also got a good friend of mine that installs alarms on the side and he's very good, I just wanted another opinion from those that have already gotten alarms installed on their 3rd gens.

elusive thanks for the tip but for the record, all that stuff you mentioned that you have done successfully is nothing but cake, nevertheless props to ya

tach wire to the ecu which is what u need connected for the ecu of the alarm to learn tach signal so that when u set the auto start it knows and can tell if the car is on or not by the sense of tach signal. if im not mistakena nd still remember right its the light blue with white strip wire that is the tach signal on the ecu harness.

you have several other points to pick up an RPM signal.

for me the best signal was right at the ecu wire and i didnt use a test light i used my fluke and checked for signal while the car was running. plus the alarm wire is only so long and i didnt wanna have to mess with extending the wire because that alone chance cause resistance and or lead to corrision . better not having to add where you dont have too.

what about if the NSS reads "neutral" on a manual car, and you wire the remote starter through a relay based on that signal.

the very exact thing that the compustar alarm does and is an option for install on manual transmissions for authorized compustar installers. Basicly how the compustar alarm for manuals with auto start works like this it weill only work if you get to your destination let out the clutch dont touch the brake pedal and u set the e brake. you then go and take the key out the ignition and open your door and get out and close the door once u have closed the door(s) the car will shut off and be set for the auto start option to work. and its dot approved alarm system for manuals with auto start.

meh, my idea wasn't even that complicated. just a simple if-then based on one condition. just wire a relay through the NSS neutral circuit, and put the alarm start signal through the relay's switched circuit.

your idea is easier
his idea would be usable on a unit not originally designed for M/T since most remote starts don't rely on the NSS. though if you can't start the car without being in neutral to begin with I wouldn't worry too much about wiring in the NSS.

but won't that potentially screw up the flywheel/starter if you let the car attempt to start while in gear on a manual? or did I misunderstand what you meant by NOT using the NSS?

From what I understand, the NSS cuts off the power to the starter farther along the circuit than where you would tap in the remote starts signal. so even if the the car gets the signal from the remote start to start, it can't.

i have the remote start when my car was an auto and it still works now that its a 5-speed. the aftermarket alarm is also hooked up with my factory alarm. both work together. i have a prestige alarm since '01 and the remote start is from viper. both aftermarket systems work off 1 remote not multiple remotes. the factory is still functional where i can roll down my 2 front windows, open sunroof, and unlock my trunk but using the keypad which is what you don't want to do since you want it to work with the remote. of course like everyone else said on here you need modules for each window so that you can have that function. i've had this system for a long time now and it still works just as fine as when i first got it 7 years ago. of course i have replace my remote battery now since its dying. i am not using my stock horns since i replaced them with 350Z JDM horns .
