for each that is ridiculous. the OEM is good, but depending on the cost may not be worth it in the long run. part of the equation in my mind is also what you pay for labor.
I had a cherokee that needed a complete steering linkage replacement. my choices were generic or moog. moog was 3x the cost of the generic. Labor is free to me, so I got the generic and I was real glad I did as I sold the truck at a loss a little while later.

I hear you on that one man. There have been many times when I would go out part-hunting for my old 92 GXE to find many other 92s abused in the same fashion; parts that you want/need are always screwed up by other inconsiderate slobs who go in with whatever tool they can and beat the part they want out of the frame...damn shame it is...

I have just removed the tierod from the knuckle and the inner tie rod seems to have a balljoint like connection in the rack and opinion. I want to know how can I just take out the inner tierod? It's like a ball joint and you can move it all around. The inner tierod looks different than the ones that you have pics of, I have new ones and they are like the ones that are in you pics.

I am sure the inner tierods are the same as the ones you have on the pic, I had go to back and take a good look at them. I JUST WANT TO TAKE THEM OUT AND HOW CAN I DO THIS?

I have been using the big channel locking wrench, I guess It was not enough effort. I was using a big wrench and I want the right size.

I looked at the tierods that I have on now and compared It to the ones that I just bought they are different meaning the tierod has a rolling balljoint effect compare to the ones that are shown on the pics here and the ones I bought.

I have been stuck here for the last two days on this shizy inner tie rods and I had also bought two possible close tools too work with on this mess and I also have the size for the both new channel locking wrenches and there not moving the damn thing because the rack and opinion gear Is being a wuss. I locked It with a wrench still no go. The question Is If I have to tear out the rack and opinion can I just take out the rack and pinion mount brackets. Iam going to tear out the whole thing.

Its been almost 2 years since I made this thread but recently came back to it after my buddy 92maximase30 reminded me about it cause he's in need of tierods.

I was just wondering if by cleaning it up a bit, it would make a nice informational sticky?

Interesting, I'm actually trying to replace my outer tie rod ends. I got one finished just fine but the driver side will NOT come off. I guess I could just take it apart at the inner joint. Didn't even ever occur to me until now

I think I am better off to get some OEM parts as a complete set. I am SO FUGDING pissed at my fraudy mechanic who screwed up my perfect MAX He freakin bent my outer and striped the damn boot.

I had the same thing happen to me when I replaced my outer tie rod end. I took the car to a mechanic, and he was supposed to do the job right. So he gets done and I take the car for a spin, all seemd well until a few days later, when I was on the Interstate doing 80mph that something on the driverside felt really loose like it was begining to come apart. I even felt it when I came to a complete stop, and started back up again. I took the wheel off only to find out that the dam tie rod end bolt was completely stripped, so It was only held on by the cotter pin!!! I was so mad that I took it back to him to let him see what he did! I took the part back to napa and they wrote it off as a defect, and exchanged it, and I put it on myself. Now my steering wheel is crooked!

Sounds like you're gonna need an alignment, you didnt screw the tierod to the exact same spot your old one was at (assuming they're both same length and curvature on design) so your toe is off now. Are you also getting a lot of tire screeching when cornering or stopping hard?

I mean removing the actual outer tie rod end, not just separating it from the knuckle.

I finally got it apart though, after a couple of days screwing with it. That sucker was on there like a ****

I actually torched the F out of it several times with no luck. I haven't had much luck torching anything recently. I couldn't get the yoke off my transmission torching it either, ended up having to cut it off.

I just replaced my inner and outer tie rods on both sides today. Had to use a set of channel locks to grip the inner tie rod.

We just did 1992maximase30's inner tierod on the driver side and we ended up doing the same thing but we applied thread lock on there as well just in case.. I bought a real big wrench long time ago when I did my inners which allowed me to tighten from the engine bay but this time the brand he bought was bigger than the original and the wrench didnt fit so channel locks it was...
