Factory Head Unit

hey all. i own a 94 se with the bose system. i have the head unit that has the cd on top and the tape on bottom. the unit is actually made by clarion. i really want to keep the factory unit. does anyone have one they will part with. or does any newer year model unit work in the same mounting whole. i have heard other units will work and that bose has wiring adapter to make them work.

since when is 400x300 pics considered hi-res?

imho, an aftermarket head unit would sound better, especially when paired with new speakers. not to mention, you know itll work well in a few years.

would be scared of it since they say never tested. OH ! but the buttons modulate though. id just be pissed if it didnt work. even if it does have a 14 day warranty. by the time i get it and it dont work and send it back they would brobably deny the warranty.

I recommend you go with an aftermarket head unit,i know you want to keep it stock, but the stock hu's on these cars are simply getting to old,you will be extremely lucky to find one that will last much longer then a year or two,if that long.

you can use a 4th gen bose H/U by making an adapter harness.

4x the price of a cheap aftermarket.

then you may as well go aftermarket.
it's easy to do but you should replace your speakers at the same time.

Brian, while I agree with you that he should replace his speakers at the same time that he changes his HU....it is not a necessity. Yes, it would be simpler to do it now and rewire everything at one time, and the benefits from more efficient speakers would make him wonder why he even questioned all of our good advice. The fact is, he could get an adapter from somewhere like Crutchfield that allows the use of the factory Bose speaker and amps.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I would go ahead and change speakers too. You won't be sorry.

why rewire?
I used the factory speaker wires on mine.
unless you know the difference most people will never hear the difference.
the concern is that the ohms are wrong for most headunits when you use the factory setup.

mau.

easier than sweating for 2 hours of re-running about 30-40 feet of wire that already exitst and works fine.
might be a little thin for a system putting out 100w per channel, but adequate(sp) for most users systems.

Good point.

That is why you get the adapter from Crutchfield, or somewhere similar. You can then adjust the the output from the headunit to work with the Bose amps and speakers.

Or you could snip the wires from the amps and bypass then and connect directly to the speakers from the HU. It works.

the ohmage is still wrong with the bypass though.
the adapter is like $40 and for that money I'd buy a set of speakers.
but that's just me, and my last VE had a "freebie" stereo setup from another car I bought and resold.
