Neat Post. I'm diggin' the scenery. Maybe we should make a sticky for everyone to post pics of places they've driven the max. What Bridge is that?

It's big, it's 5 miles long, and it's in Michigan...

maxitech, nice pictures man. Is that the Quincy mine is one of the first couple pics? The ones showing Houghton and Hancock really get to me. Sort of sentimental, my grandparents grew up in Tapiola, just out side Chassel and Houghton and I have agood amount of family still there. Its an awesome place and these pictures convey that well. It maybe small but still a great place, i went there before i had my max last summer, but i drove an 06 Prius all the way there and back and got around 60mpg... cant beat that...

On a bit of an OT note, the General Store out in Tapiola has since closed...I guess the old couple who ran it wanted to retire. There's still a welding shop and a restaurant...and that's about it. The backroads leading from my place (Dodgeville) out to Tapiola are some of my favorite in the area for "enthusiast-type" driving. Not much to see on that drive, tho...hence no pics of it...It's long and straight for the most part with a couple of fun corners.

Let's play a little trivia...Can you identify any of the areas in the pics (other than the obvious)?

The general store closed? So is it another abondoned building like the defunct school across the street is? And the Feedmills still open, thats good, it had some pretty good food, despite its looks. My families old farm is just down the street that the feed mill is by, River Road, it intersects with tapiola road. Its half burned t othe ground now but i have more family on that street, its actually a cool place sdespite being basically nothing. The first two pics look like that street you take from chassel ,5th, to get to tapiola, because i know u take that road like 4 miles west and turn 90 degress onto what becomes tapiola road, but i could be wrong. The 3rd pic looks like the road if you take river road til it dead ends and you can go left or right, i took an atv down that road to my great uncles cabin, but then again theres alot of dirt roads like that up there, the first time i went to tapiola from chassel i didnt take 5th, that nice paved street and i ended up going for 30 mins down gravel and dirt backroads...
The next two pics show quincy obviously but i don't exactly know where you are, maybe on the north side of Portage lake or bay, but otherwise not too sure, altho their are alot of downward sloping streets in houghton... Then theres the vertical raising bridge, the only one in UP i think, and then on the main road you can see its not a bad downtown, theres this nice bar/restaurant on the right on the last block, forgot the name. And finally of course the Mackinac Bridge. I dont remember too many of the details from when i was in the UP but its great, and il be back there soon enough...

Edit...The welding shop? was that the old ex-school that now has like cars outside of it and what not, or is it somewhere else, and I heard the school was closed due to asbestos, and not to mention like 6 ppl attended at the most..

I added some captions to where the pictures were taken...If you can't figure out by now the bridge pictured is the Mackinaw Bridge then you need to get out more often...even if you don't live in Michigan.

If you have your own driving pictures go ahead and add them...let's see if we can get something cool going here...

That's cool! Mackinaw Island is where my wife and I went for our honeymoon back in 2000. It was in late summer but it wasn't too warm. We had a great time, but it would have been more fun driving up there from the Detroit area in the Max instead of the short cab Nissan pickup I had at the time. Alas, that was before the hallowed days of the Max.

We're coming back to Detroit this summer for my sister's wedding, but I think it may be a bit longer before we make it back to the UP/ Mackinaw.
