3rd Gen. Favorite Mods Thread.

I was just wondering what some of the VE30DE members favorite modes were. Like - Headers, TB's, Exhaust Systems including - Mufflers, Race Pipes and Exhaust Pipe Diameters. Electrical Upgrades, Spark Plugs and Wires, Ignitions, CAI'S, Tires, Trans Upgrades, Interior Mods/Designs, Wheels, Exterior Mods, Custom Jobs, Paint, ect.

not just ve, but struts/shocks are pretty popular, with eibach springs and koni or tokico struts.
CAI, usually "home made", iirc.
chasis/suspension stuff from Matt93SE,
of course upgrading the antiquated/deteriorated Bose equipment.
BBKs are popular if you put aftermarket rims on.
stock exhaust headers aparently flow better than almost any aftermarket header available(for VE, I hear...)
Craig Brace has a page that has some cool info, including custom mods that work with what you alread have.

the list goes on, but thats just a quick rundown of "basic" stuff.

FSTB, Home made CAI, Y pipe, and UDP top the list. Overall you should get your car running right before anything.

suspenions Eibach and KYBgr-2's like the lowered hieght hate the shocks planning on upgrading to koni reds 5 point adjustables. CAI custom or cheap ebay ones dont matter all do the same thing. FSTB is a good thing to add as is other susepnsion upgrades. NGK IX Irdium spark plugs. since ngk is what comes from the factory best to keep it ngk. and dont use bosh platinum +4's unless u want to have to later on rebuild your motor from broken spark plug tips. bmw E36 projector lights from euro with Heliz CCFL White angeleyes. 2.5 inch inlet 3 inch dual outlet hayame DTX muffler great nice deeper sound then a straight through muffler. I have a Nismo 62 degree celcius T-Stat installed in my max and i like it but it does suck beause during the winter it wont get your heater as hot as it did factory. but it hasnt effected my maxima one bit the maxima learned the new temp it gets toi and is fine.lower temp t stat = less heat soak. i think a few of us are also use Toyo proxie s4 tires. a very nice tire but has a soft compund that can wear easy.

I've seen multiple sources say they help with little things, common sense tells you about what they'll do, and what they're worth. I figure it can't hurt so I'll probably be making my own sometime in the near future....

BTW John, Ricer Red is where it's at:

I feel ya, mine is waiting patiently in the trunk of my parts car...

I'm not an orange type of guy, though the newer nissans tend to pull it off pretty well...

Anything I have is my favorite (+ swaybars, hopefully coming soon)...J/K

A good starting point is a WSP y-pipe, and eibach/konis are great if you can afford it...

starts stayed about the same (not much room to improve), headlights slightly brighter (but the upgraded headlight wiring harness I made made it difficult to improve upon), mainly felt a noticeable improvement in power, specifically the mid range really seemed to pick up a bit, I really wasn't expecting to feel anything in terms of power but did.

you should do it, greeny was down here friday to check it out, i don't remember who made the comment but someone said the swap really wasn't worth the effort cause of how much the car is worth (even though the car is actually in great condition........yes greeny i know the suspension needs beefin up ) but ULTIMATELY its wat the car is worth to you and personally i love a 3rd gen, it is so much fun to drive that car now with all that power compared to the VG puss motor haha, sorry but the vg just doesn't have it compared the ve, the VE brings out the life in the 3rd gen

hmmm 4 full weekends, so lets see.......40+ hrs, hell lets say 60 hrs, and STILL got some things to tweak on it, we gotta PULL THE ENTIRE DASH HARNESS tomorrow, blinkers won't work or door locks, so....you gotta do all harnesses definently, so wit that being said its not completely finished, the car runs but you can't use the blinkers and door locks ain't working anymore guessing with the difference in rpms putting more electricity through the car (different alts) caused it to blow something in the harness, cause they worked until we drove the car,

have to ask dad (Mike90SE) exactly wat happend, i'm just trying to quote him on wat he said lol

Two underrated items: Poly bushings (make a VERY noticeable difference), and (of course) tires...All of the suspension upgrades in the world won't do **** unless you have a sticky contact patch...

I seriously doubt the engine caused the issue directly.
it happened at the same time, but more than likely unrelated.

My favorite mods are my suspension mods.

Custom Front Strut Tower Bar, Every BlehmCo part made for the 3rd Gen, Koni's, B&G Springs, ST Front and Rear Sway Bars, Polyurethane bushings all around, etc....

I also like my 4 wheel BBK, thats a nice head turner mod.

I can't wait to install my stillen kit and get a paint job, that'll be a good day.

ok so i just got in from outside doing the CRAIG BRACE corner light rewire may sound stupid but even if you consider this a mod but i think it is one of the best things to do....i was getting sick of people on the left or right of me flipping me the bird and telling me to use my f-in signal light....but really i always use my signal light but other drivers on the left or right of me i guess dont notice that the signal lights are on the lower bumper....so i think everone that owns the 3rd gen should do this rewire it is great check out his website

i did it on the right side but ran out of wire to do the left. I had grander plans and may get back on them now that i have some spare relays from my parts car. mainly to make them offset at all times rather than just offsetting when the parking/headlights are on (simultaneous when headlights are off)

but as far as the layout of the front lights, the 3rd gen is basically perfect. having the signal super-close to the headlight as most cars have (the newer, the worse... for example a lot of new lexuses have the signal tucked into the corner of the headlight housing) you CANNOT notice it if the headlights are on. only when they're off. or parking light/signal combos where it goes dim-bright-dim-bright b/c that isn't enough contrast either. single-filament bumper-mounted signals ftw. dual filament corner lamps ftw. side-mounted single-filament parking lights w/ craig brace mod ftw. all the max needs is upgraded headlights and it's got the best lighting on the road. and the rear signals are nice and yellow, as opposed to being more orange... which helps stand out a tiny bit better as well. Though i must admit that the 92-93 non-SE Camry has the BEST tails on the road; they're just functionally perfect (my brother has one.)

another thing to do is pop the parking light wire out of the socket for each of the inner brake bulbs. helps distinguish brake vs turn, in the event of a CHMSL bulb burnin out, by having one light on each side coming on from the off-condition rather than the dim condition. that way you have:

18W x2
27W/8W 27W
NISSAN MAXIMA 27W 27W/8W
27W 27W............................27W 27W

i haven't done it but i plan to. therefore you may actually have to cut the wire and tape the end rather than unseating it from the socket.

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. Yeah, I thought the contrast would be not enough either so for that sake I did get the lowest wattage 1157 bulb holder I could find.... I think it's like 5 watts constant, and then 33 or so for the flash, so it's pretty visible. But purely out of functionality I know where you're coming from
