Intake manifold/injectors questions
I've posted a thread about my **** poor gas milage (14 mpg) before and some people suggested that replacing some O-rings, hoses, and injectors might remedy the problem among other things. I never had a reason to really mess with any of the internal engine parts, so I'm a noob at this. Due to the reason stated in the previous sentence, I decided to practice on the engine from my parts car, which I stripped to the frame a few weeks ago. So now I got a few questions (below the pictures).
How to pull injectors off the rail without it ending up looking like that?
I heard there are supposed to be two O-rings, yet all injectors I pulled seemed to only have the one.
Is there a way to clean the cylinders of that gunk without actually taking apart the whole thing? And what is that part called?
Should I use carburator cleaner to take care of this, or is there something else I should use?
Is this worth cleaning?
Also, can any of the gaskets be reused or do I have to replace them all? And is there difference between hoses, like high/low pressure? If so, what kind should I get for the fuel rail?

1. Best way to get those injectors out is to let them soak with some PB Blast then gently turn em side to side from the top with channel locks, if they dont move AT ALL, spray from more. Be sure to do this when the top cover is off which is 2 screws, I prefer to use vicegrips on those since they strip easily.
2. They do have to o-rings at least my gfs 89 did...
3 I used some carb cleaner, for both the Throttle body and the inside of the manifold.
TIP, if you're gonna have the plentum off, its good to replace the valve cover gaskets and all vacuum hoses, unless you know its been changed or gaskets arent leaking a single drop.

as internetautomar says, they usually do a half *** test to make sure they spurt fuel, and send em out. they dont take intermittent coil shorts, worn valves, etc into consideration.(paraphrased, brian...)
go new, and save some headache later(an empty pocket and stomache now is better, cause you can fill the wallet with paper and your stomach with water.)

the question is which ones are they.
Remans are worrisome, and if it's a 89-92 VG. There are several companies boxing a really crappy new one that had a high failure rate when I tried them for a customer a while back.
I'll stick with what I know works and only requires the job to be done once.

remans, avoid.

IMHO, their really is no point in going to that stage on injector removal without replacing the injector, but if really need reuse the injector just use something with a soft end to smack the injector out.
