Quote: So, if I have a 90 with the rear disks, I would only have to change calipers and rotors? The bracket is the same?
i'd assume that since the bracket on the 89-90 is LONGER, the torque member or caliper must somehow be "shorter" to make for the same hub-center-to-caliper distance on all 3rd gens... meaning that there's something about the 91-94 either torque member or caliper which is consequently longer than the corresponding bolt pattern on our 89-90 hardware, to make up for the fact that the bracket is shorter. my money's on the tq member itself, but it could be the caliper, in which case you'd need to swap ebrake cables for the latter-style. I hope it's the torque members, because another member on the org desparately needs to buy my 91-94 ebrake cables off me.. in which case i'd be stuck with no ebrake. Anyhow, once my car is back on the ground and owning civics even worse than before, i'll need a way to stop faster... hmm.. so i'll DEFINITELY be doing this mod, along with reuptable brake parts.. no more 'duralast' shall ever disgrace the calipers and wheelhubs of this 4DSC.

I told you Id replace them, its just a PITA to get to the JY on a non crappy weather day. Plus finding a VE (or maybe 91-94) at all during the winter sucks.

Oh and the 91-94 calipers are actually bigger as well. Not sure on the mounting but they are bigger. I sold triplegmax a 90 se caliper and it ended up not working on his 91

well i looked at the ride and noticed that maybee it is an 87 se deal or sometin, i dunno maybee someone modded the maxima before me (that might account for the thick *** rear swaybar that i noticed while examining the rear rotors) but my rotors are the same size after the q45 caliper and rotor swap!

BBK FTMFW!!!

now if the rears are vented then i guess i should do it then..

just b/c i'm such a cool dude, i'm going to take pics of each of the three components of both early and late braking systems. for size comparison. that way we'll have a decent understanding of what parts to use for those of us who already have the early bracketry.

early brackets to strut, late calipers with their bracket to strut bracket.
doesn't matter early or late.

So what do you think would work better? My current Brembo rear rotors with hawk hps pads? Or the larger Z31 rotors (non Brembo) and the same Caliper and Hawk hps pad setup?

Reason being is if I went with new rotors for the rear, I'd have to buy non-brembo.

Caped, I noticed more difference from Drum to disc than I did from stock to z31 but I've got a torn guidepin boot up front which may be causing crappy stopping. I'll look into it when its warmer.

In case there are people interested in the 89-90 bracket and Jeff is not able to get more than 5 people, I can get enough brackets for a decent price.

While you're ahead and while its been raining and cant really work on your 5spd swap...I'd get the calipers prepped up so they look nice and shiny perhaps even paint them...I didnt get to do that but will be getting mine or some spares sandblasted and cleancoated (or painted.)

I've got 2 choices that I'm leaning towards. Just wirebrush em, sandblast em, you know get em' all shiny and sparkly then clear coat em',
I wouldn't mind some chrome paint but dont know if there's a high temp one..

OR

Wirebrush, sandblast, and paint em red...I'm not sure which to go for

mmm.... out of those two options, I'd definitely go with the clearcoat, though I opted to paint mine black. Even though it's clearcoated they can still get dirty, black hides most of everything. And Red just seems a tad bit rice if you have nothing else on your car done.

I agree with you which is why I'm leaning more towards the polish/clearcoat as well, note it was my first option

Now, if you lived in Chicago you would take that statement about black hiding dirt back. Salt spread for the snow and ice will make those look white and they'd look like crap. I did my parallel links just like Greeny..they looked new, shiny and black until the snow got here and then BAM they look like crap. Its all a matter of keeping your car clean

Ohh, true. I don't have to deal with any snow and little rain, and if it does rain... it's nothing a hose can't fix. The polished + clear coat would look clean though, as far as tastefulness goes.

Indeed, stands out but doesnt blind you saying "hey look at me!!!"

Anyone know if there's any high temp chrome paint? I'm just gonna polish and clear coat but I'd like to try the paint as well. I googled some a lil while ago and was checkin out the duplicolor site but didnt see any..

the calipers are bad anyhow. i'll have to buy at least one, if not both, new. so they'll have that kind of olive-gold color to them, and be clearcoated.

sure...he did pretty good...

so jhon i m gonna do this swap soon...can i use my 92 SE stock caliper? or is there any option that i can use different stronger caliper? and ya can i use 300zx dust shield instead of cutting stock one? and can i jus go to auto parts store and get 89-90 torque member easily i know i can get rotors or the part number u mentioned is the one i must use?

is it only for rear? not front?

just for the rear. and the 89-90 torque member is not what you need. he used the wrong terms, and they were poking fun about that a few posts up. it's the caliper adapter bracket. keep your 92's torque member (where the pads go).

before it becomes a sticky john has to fix that

You should be able to use your 92 SE rear calipers as I dont know any upgrades. 89-90 torque member (not the name as I was corrected earlier but I know what you mean) you will not find at a parts store... only dealer or JY. If you need the 89-90 members I can get you a pair for a good price in case you cant find any. I never tried using a 300zx shield so that I cant answer. And Yes you can ONLY use the rotors I mentioned. I got mine from Brian (internetautomar) for a real good price.. just give him a holler

ugh. cmon mang!
calipers and tqmembers from 91-94
these things from a 89-90. not called tq members. called caliper adapter brackets. i have some of each part. i can take a pic of each individual part, and label it, with years, for a graphic representation.... i can even hold a tapemeasure to it for actual size info if needed. just no wrong names!

the shiny gold thing is a 91-94 torque member. the nasty rusty-ish thing it's attached to is a 89-90 adapter bracket. the shiny silver thing is a z31 rotor

ah, hm. I've always called the shiny gold thing a caliper bracket. The nasty rusty-ish thing a caliper adapter plate, and the shiny silver thing a rotor.

caliper bracket is an OK name. look at post 17 for the fsm pic. it's just that he was calling the adapter plate the tqmember... the gold thing is the tqmember not the nasty rust-ish thing.

u made those cuts, pulled the shield's edges up, and made the dust shield flat instead of cutting it?
