Dang, it is messed up

A friend of mine bought a 90 300zx and in the glove box there was a Momo shifter. It had a nicer billet style one on it he liked better. Anyway, he gave me the shift **** because it matches my car perfectly. It's black leather with red stitching.

After I did my 9007 conversion, I installed it:

Then I found out why it was in the glove box on the 300z: the damn thing isn't secure. The metal inner shaft is secure, but the leather outer part will rotate (not slide up and down). It's annoying as hell.

I like it better than my AE shift ****, but I don't know if I can fix it. I just emailed MOMO, but I am sure they will tell me to bleep off. I might be able to glue it at the bottom or something, but I am sure that will end up coming apart. Damn.

can you pic the "rotation"?

nice find. the leather on my oem one was coming off when my sister got the car, and she pulled it off. now that the car is mine, I want a good leather ****, but cant find one that "feels" right. Ive considered aftermarket ones, but they all look tacky or ricer or dont fit the palm right...
wonder if they still make 'em and how much a nismo **** goes for...
gonna google now.

that one looks like a phallus... and the one he got looks like one of our stock ones (or at least mine, and as far as i can tell, they all look the same...

(and I now feel like a dumb ***, thought he said nismo...
nismo... momo... got the similar sounding names corn-fuzed in my head...)

I have the same shift **** except mine doesn't have red stitching. I LOVE mine. I had an ae **** as well, but I decided to sell it because I had the momo.

i know that every single last one of you will hate me for saying this but there is one IDENTICAL to that, just not MOMO, at my local Autozone. it's not on the website though. but i'm getting one as soon as i can afford to buy non-necessary stuff for my car, along with a matching boot.

black leather w/ red stitching. It'll look good with my red interior. go figure?

I can't really take a picture.

Imagine the **** as two pieces. 1) A solid rubber piece with a leather cover 2) a metal tube inside the first piece.

The metal tube (1) tightens to the metal shifter on the car via allen screws. That part is secure.

The outer shell of the shifter (1) does not slide up and down on the tube, however it spins/twists.

Kind of like if you had a screw on shift **** and it wasn't screwed on tight. You can turn it in your hand. It can be driven this way, but it is very annoying. As you are shifting, it turns sideways.

I don't want to ruin it by trying to pull the metal part out. I have a feeling that if I try to glue the metal to the outer shell at the base, the glue would just break and it would look bad.

I looked on the MOMO website and they make a similar shift **** called the "anatomic" but it doesn't have the red stitching, it is all black leather.

so... the **** itself is spinning, not the leather?
try an epoxy or contact to adhere the metal sleve and the ****, that should hold her.

CAPE: ive been to autozone numerous times and havent seen one at my local ones. if I found one id buy it, too. the rubber(or plastic or whatever) **** i currently have gets kind slick if my hands get sweaty, and the leather allows some grip to it.(on second thought, maybe i did see it but it wasnt leather, and the synthetic stuff doesnt feel as good... im tactile like that. i like tectures, how things feel and what not, and NO GAY JOKES..COUGH!COUGH! JOHN! COUGH!

yeah, the **** is spinning. I will give MOMO until Wednesday to reply, then I will use some epoxy on the bottom. I just have a feeling it won't hold. You put a lot more pressure on these things than you think. I can't even turn it with my hands, however, on the shifter, it feels loose.

I guess I have nothing to lose, since it was free. Still, I like it and I would like to be able to use it.

my OE shifter **** was on great, then i took it off to remove the boot or something, and now it won't go back down all the way and it won't thread on tight. it will tighten decently but still turns a little bit when upshifting 2-3 and 4-5. i think maybe the threads stripped or something. Anyhow we'll worry about that later because the shifter is still stuck on the parts car.

would the rubber shrink and tighten around the metal inner sleeve
if you put the **** in a clothes dryer? inside a sock for protection?
would the heat hurt the leather?would first using conditioner help keep it from
drying the leather while heating the rest?or set it next to the heater insteads

This one here? http://www.autozone.com/R,NONAPP1292...ductDetail.htm

Then there's http://www.autozone.com/R,NONAPP1294...ductDetail.htm

Those are the closest two in look to the OP's momo that I see on their site.

cause red means horsepower.....

cause my car is Aztec red.
and my 4-pt harnesses are red.
And I have a black shift boot w/ red stitching.
so I got a black **** w/ red stitching to match.

i have a red interior on my car, so it would make sense. Maybe on the parts car, blue would look better, for it having a blue interior, or gold stitching if you've got a tan interior... just a matter of taste.

is that red switch for passenger ejection? I was thinking about baking my shifter, moving the ball DOWN (i know most move it up for shorter shifts) but then cutting off twice the length as i moved the ball.. which would probably be an inch move, so 2 inches cut. that would give me shorter shifts but also wider visual angles than the stock half-inch from left gate to right gate.

That red switch is for his electrically controlled super duper supercharger. Ain't that right Wayne? At least that is what it feels like when he flips it.

No point in doing all that work on an engine with 300,000+ miles, imo..
