Mixing power steering fluids?
So I used some non-Dextron III fluid for my power steering. It was just regular Autozone power steering fluid. I think I have a small leak and I need to add every few months - no big deal right now. I actually got the whole rack replaced a couple years ago so now I think it's a hose or the pump.
BUT, I'm feeling guilty about not using what's recommended. We're supposed to use Dextron III ATF in our power steering right? I'm not even sure what the mechanic used when he replaced the rack.
So, is there any risk of mixing fluids? Can I mix the dextron III with the regular stuff that's in there?

suck the stuff out and flush the system with ATF. ATF and power steering fluid are two different bases and won't mix with each other. possible to do some nasty damage that way. If you're lucky, you haven't ruined the 'new' rack yet.
