I think it may be exaust related but when I acceclerate hard with the windows down I can hear a definate hissing sound with the exaust? that and my ehgine has a weird putt-putt nosie when idleing

 

exhaust leak prolly. check for broken studs and blown-out gaskets. My friend blew out an exhaust gasket on his car and it actually sounds kinda good tho....

 

oh man...my flex pipe is going (thanks to me when i put the distributor on).
but my car has a "cat back and no resonator) but i get the same when i accelerate but you can hear the leak and intake from upfront.

and a friend of mine says it sounds "american".

 

yeah when the flex pipe busts it sounds cool but try drivin 150 miles str8 with it youll go deaf

by the way the putt putt sound will go away with tune up or just flushing out the fuel system

 

Stillman if youre flex pipe is going theres a good place local to us, its on like 3000 Manheim in franklin park or whatever, got mine welded in, some broken hangers welded all for 60 bucks, including tax and parts, good deal. It may not be bad noise now, but i let mine go for about 6 months, and it got real bad...

 

well mines is'nt as bad as yall think.
when it goes i'ma upgrade that cat back system (keep the muffler, just upgrade the piping).
as for the putt-putt it when away when i adjusted the timing..but yea i'm planning on a seafoam+tune-up+ cai!
