weird idle

I've had my car for a little while now and lately the idle seems a little off. Whenever the car is at idle, the needle on the tach will bounce around between 600-800. It does not stay fixed at a constant RPM, which is usually around 700.

I know this might seem like a minute problem but I believe this might lead to other problems down the road.

Re: weird idle

How many miles do you have on your car? Have you had the throttle body sensor replaced? Normally, this needs to be replaced at about 90k. It controls the idle, timing, gas feed, etc. You can also locate your ecu on the passenger side behind the radio(towards the floor) and put in diagnostic mode and it can tell you if there is a problem. Do you have an SE or GXE? If the tps sensor needs replacement, you can actually lose some power and it only costs about $60 for a new one.

Re: Re: weird idle

Been having the same problem, kind of weird at a light when stopped. It's an '89 SE 5 speed with 130k on it and I have no idea if it's been replaced, think that is it?
