IS IT TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE?
Well my daughter heard a loud pop and the car started pulling to the side. It looks like from the strut back to firewall part of the frame let loose. Can it be fixed? Should I have it fixed? Will it be safe for her to drive? It is a 92.
The engine is great only 135,000, just put in a new alternator last month, new fuel lines, etc. The body is ok for 17 years some rust outside must have been some underneath too.

LMAO.
I'll bet the control arm bushing finished disintegrating and that is all that happened.
you were driving with a leaky power steering hose which will destroy the bushing in short order.

ya.. all my bushings are destroyed which is why i baby it around corners these days. I know it's better not to drive it. but it's my DD and it's either that or walking 6 miles to my parents' house every morning and back every afternoon. PS leak definitely killed the ones up on the passenger side... but i've never had any loud pops

lol. I consider my stereo too loud, but my brother thinks its too quiet. thats with a 10" and 100w amp.
I don't have pics but the metal seems rusted through from the frame in two places. One near where the stut and than back to under the console. It didn't look good according to the mechanic that looked at it. He said he didn't think it was worth him fixing it this morning.
Anyone interested in buying it for parts?

So let me add my guess.
If it's rusted through enough for the for the front suspension to give way, it's too far gone to repair. Rust doesn't usually attack just one side of a car. You might repair this problem only to have something else will give way due to rust, only this time at a much less opportune time.
Typically the rear wheel wells rust through first. Take bright light, trunk open, peek under upholstery, both sides. See the road, belts drop? If so, read this linky [maximaboi] 10-21-2004, 02:18 AM: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....223&highlight=
THATS WHAT I WAS TALkING ABOUT.
he said there's a pop and there's rust AROUND the strut frame.
i belive once you raise up the car the frame will contract back in.
you might be able to save it by welding it together..if it's worth that much to you.

I drive a '94 gxe also...garage kepted ...no rust that i know of. However i commute daily at freeway speeds 75 plus. And once in a while i will hear something like knock (like a rock) hitting the bottom of the chasis.....now ya got me wondering if this could be a worn bushing somewhere???
85k on the speedo...
