Better Brake Light Mod = melted assembly?

well, driving home the other day someone pulled up behind me then to the side and told me my right tail light was out. So i go home and pull out the assembly to look at the bulbs and the plastic near the outermost bulb (near top) was melted? I don't know what could cause this, the only thing i've done to my tail lights is the BBL mod where you clip the Green/white wire going to the innermost brake lights on either side. would the current only going to the outerbulbs cause them to overheat the plastic and melt the assembly?

i don't see the BBL mod as being a culprit... the electricity won't be forced, rather, it will actually reduce the current travelling down the line. I have had several melted sockets in the past due to the terminals on the bulbs melting, back before the BBL. but in terms of electricity, if you remove one headlight bulb, the other bulb doesn't suddenly get twice as much electricity. it actually drops the wattage draw of the whole circuit in half. similarly to tank with 2 holes at the bottom. if you plug one hole, the water won't come out the other hole faster... you'll just have less of a leak.

so take a look at ALL of your dual-filament bulb contacts. if any are smooshed or flattened out, replace them. if the sockets are fried, get more from the JY that are in better shape.

this is what you DON"T want. even tho they aren't touching each other, the melted contact is touching the contact on the socket-side. combined brake and illum through the illum fuse, burnt it up every time i hit the brakes.

When brk lights stay on, heat builds up. U should see how german vanagon rear light plastics flow, rear engine... too many bulbs, too much heat (plus sun?).

Gettin heat out needs air circulation. Getting air circ means gettin dust in

See that brk lights work properly, wont 'jam'...

you're right

i checked the bulb bottom it was flattened to the point of touching, i switched it with the other bulb so it's only getting electricity when i brake, ur right 4=braking 2= running
