Hey guys i was thinking about swapping out my vg30e to a new vg30et motor in my 91 maxima. Does anybody have any insight on this swap or have any tips or suggestions, id appreciate what you think.

It is in the stickies, under 3rd gen modification information, then mtcookson turbo write up. He did the swap to a jdm vg30et from a vg30e. I believe it gives instructions on turboing the current vg in addition to the swap info. Look there, because you will feel the wrath of people saying "search" shortly

Lol pretty typical. Noobs claims to want to turbo, then isn't committed enough to search for a link that we have archived with the probably the most thorough vg30et swap content on the web.

This happens 1-2 times a month.

We ppl say "Check the stickies." It means this topic has been beat to death and now is archived.

Awhile back I was looking through cook's posts about the ET swap, as well as the ones prior to doing the swap. It's funny how much trash people were talking to him about how he's a noob, doesn't know anything, isn't smart enough to do it and finally he busts out with the completed swap and write up. Classic.

but different mounts so there is variation.

anyhow the big thing is, how good is the OP with a welder? if he can't weld then he's SOL and would have to spend $$ to get it all done.

its like ppl want some consollation prize or something, you tell them to search then they find out how hard or easy it is then they either do it, or loose interest.

ok well thanks to goon for the very quickly and ignorantly calling some one a noob again, especially after the problem was solved and i found all of the information i needed in the other forum. There was no need for you to post that after that forum was basically done...

they look TOTALLY different.
the rear left mount may be very similar, but it is different. the rear right appears to be taller on the 2nd gen than the 3rd gen.
front and trans don't even look close.

how come you used to have so many vac lines and hoses and stuff (and kinda still do)? Is it b/c the 2nd gen is less electronic-control-based and more vacuum-control-based? or is it that and/or the turbo setup that did that to you?

like you said more stuff on the 2nd gens is vacumm ran, i could ditch some of it all together but i want it to look somewhat legit if i get pulled over and told to pop the hood, all the solenoids are there and hooded up in the 300zx diagram, yada, yada, yada. got more plans tho, thinking strongly about doing the undone, the most doubted, the most impratical turbo setup ever.....and its not an engine swap...........

k thanks, just so I make sure I understand what your saying, by "rear left" you mean the engine mount on the back side (as your looking from the front of the car) of the engine (#1 piston side) "right rear"= rear tranny mount? "front" = engine mount on #2 piston side? and "trans" = front trans mount?

so for the most part it's the same set up i.e. they bolt to the block in the same place and then to the same style cross member so it would be just a matter of a little more or less room for piping between the two?

http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasit...1612_1617.html

for some reason i don't agree with their names. they call the rear engine mount "rear LH" and the front trans mount "front LH"... they then call the rear trans mount "rear engine" and the front engine mount "front engine". I say they have their rear-side mounts flip-flopped in their database. same applies for all diagrams shown.

I don't know about block mounting locations, but presumably they are in the same locations.

mount location descriptions always stink in my opinion.
I used to have a location description picture guide, but it's not on line.

if irrc all VGs have all mounting bosses cast into the block so you can take a RWD and put it into a FWD

but yea i can see why the mounts themselves would be a bit different due to the size different s in the engine bay and the way the the the factory piping is set up

my point being that he was asking about info on putting a VG30et in so I thought that I would mention the 2nd gen area where there is info on it.

personally I would stick with the 9:1 cr of the VG30E use 2nd gen ex. man. mount the turbo over the tranny and use a PF intake

yes you are correct about the mounting holes on the blocks all vg30 blocks are the same its some acessories that change such as oil pump, crank, pistions, heads yaa, yada, so you would be able to swap in a 84-88 vg30et into your maxima. its easy as pie, all youd have to do is one motormount(the front one) and downpipe, oil return bung. an dyour good to go.

and if you go factory tuned you dont really have anything to worry about(ecu wise) unless you wanna drag race it then you might pop a head gasket. so go to the turbo section and look at engine electronics.
