Buy and GXE don't go in the same sentence

But seriously, no... not unless they have receipts of the transmission being replaced or rebuilt recently.

forget that, I want a receipt for the timing belt being done!
I can feel a bad transmission, you can't feel a bad timing belt.

If there are receipts with it for a recent T-belt change and transmission replacement/rebuild, it might be worth it. Overall, the car looks decent.

A 14 year old car with that many miles for that price is just too high.

Transmission/timing belt are the key things to look for, but a lot of small things can add up also - brakes, tires, struts, etc.. if you need to replace all of them.

I wouldn't pay more than $1300 for that car. As others have said, there are many other cars, some newer, with much lower mileage on the clock for the same money. Try craigslist in your area if you haven't.

b/c of the fact that it's going to cost you another $1000 to get it fitted up with a 5spd and stiffer suspension, rear discs, and you (you = general population) can forget the sunroof unless you're crazy like, well, goon is.

He got the car from his brother at around 150k miles & got the transmission replaced with a used one at about 154k miles. From 150k - 214k he hasn't change the timing belt. He's a pastor so i'm pretty sure he wouldn't lie. lol.

If timing belt hasn't been changed in 64k miles, It is VERY due for a change. That engine will kill itself it that snaps. If you you do get it, you need to change that immediately. 500-700 at shop, much less on your own.

Interference engine + old belt = crash of valves and pistons

Actualy since its a 94 it has the round tooth timing belt, which only needs to be changed every 100k

BTW I paid $3k for my 91SE 5-speed 6 years ago, with 90K, fresh paint new timing belt, and brand new injectors 2 months earlier.

$2200 is a too high with that mileage and an auto!

105K..., but yeah way too much $$. KBB doesnt even use the mileage to effect price on the cars from what ive seen, so you cant really go by that for this car. Bottom line, too much $, maybe half that considering the cars tough aside from the trans...

my 90 has round teeth... motor has been swapped by previous owners somewhere along the line (prolly the owner at 70k let the tbelt snap for ignorance or assumption), anyhow, his prospect car might have a non-94 motor the same as my 90 has a 94 motor.

i bought a 89 SE 5spd with a broken tbelt for $450... putting the 1994 motor in there but taking the tbelt and roundies for myself and putting square on the 89 to sell. car would be worth $1500 of it ran.

Use the fact that the timing belt NEEDS to be replaced as soon as possible as a selling factor. Ask him if he'll do $1400 for it and then spend the other $$ on getting a shop to replace your belt for $300-400, or just do it yourself. After all, how is he going to sell you a car with over 200,000 miles for $2200 that's going to need another six hundred as soon as you get it.

if it needs the timing belt and has already received a USED trans, anything over $800 is too high especially with those miles

I paid $2700 for my 94 GXE. It came with every option available (to a GXE) including sun roof, Bose speakers, Automatic Climate Control, factory spoiler, keypad for doors, Leather, etc. etc. It was maintained by Nissan regularly until 2003 when the 2nd owner acquired it. I am the third owner and I have done a ton of maintenance work myself. Unfortunately I did have to have the transmission rebuilt. It cost $1,500. I think it was worth it. Hopefully it's good for another 150k!

1) you suck b/c your maxima is like 200x shinier than mine
2) howmuch did you get those rims for?
3) what was the mileage on yours when you bought it?

1. Hehe

2. I got a good-buddy discount for helping manage a z31 (300ZX) forum, and those rims cost me $80 shipped . The tires aren't roadworthy but that's fine because my current tires on the Max are toast so timing is perfect.

3. I'm getting about what my 300ZX gets (makes sense since they are both VG) which is about 21mg. It might do better if I could keep my foot out of it.

EDIT: OOPS!!

You asked mileage. It had just under 150k when I got it. However, it was meticulously maintained and the engine is nice and fresh. My VG 300ZX feels "tired" in comparison . I did a timing belt job myself at 154k with Nissan parts. Tranny was rebuilt at 156k. While I was at it I replaced rotors and pads at 156k as well as the drum shoes in the rear. When tranny was rebuilt I had them use steel plates so it will stand up better to the punishment it will surely face in my day to day driving. All work but the tranny was done by me, so it cost very little.

not too bad then. I miss when my car was this shiny:
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...g?t=1213644162

that was 1 month after i got it (july 2006) but um, the paint is not so great now. repainting dark metallic blue one of these days. But for the shape it appeared to be in, I didn't think i was getting ripped too bad. But after the immediately-dead speedometer, and a few other repairs (both completed and pending).. i'm thinking i paid about twice what i should have.

I know how you feel. I love my Max but if I would have known that I was going to have to replace the transmission months after I purchased it I would have walked away. The previous (2nd crappy) owner had stated that they had replaced the transmission. This was true, but they replaced it with a used transmission with only 20k less miles then the original. Of course it's going to fail! They weren't honest about that. Carfax and the transmission mechanic told the true tale.

Still, we love our Max's...right?

minus the fact that it's on a tow truck, this is my max at its best http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...g?t=1213647032
but during the swap... this happened to the paint and it's just in nasty condition overall... it has a few random dents that i DO NOT KNOW the origin of (even a few in the hood... wtf?) http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...g?t=1213647054

yes, I pulled my broken a/t at night, in the rain. Actually the majority of the swap was done after dark because i kept waking up at like 3pm every day and it was during february. so NOW, the value of my car is far far lower... but i'm working on getting it back up again. not to sell, rather, because I want my car to be purty again.

i really miss VB programming....
Dude... VB (Visual Basic) doesn't use semicolons

I paid 2.3k for my 146k 91 SE w/ sunroof.
And then paid more for my gear slipped tranny, and then more for a tune-up.
I know... I know. I got screwed, by love the dang car.

i haven't done VB since 11th grade and i thought semicolons can substitute for line breaks... or is that colons? anyhow it's been a while and i was must arsing around. l like that phrase... arsing around. it's rather british.

either way
90gxe a/t 143k $3000 jun06
89SE m/t 245k $350 feb08
89SE m/t 237k $450 may08
average price: $1266.67
so on average... the price was fair.

Pictures look great! The mess on your Max should come right off! Take a little Isopropyl Alcohol and those grease marks will be gone in seconds. I had the same grease marks, in fact, from when I did the timing belt job. That should be a pretty easy fix! What is the status of her now? Looks like a nice Max, hope you can get her where you want her!

um... interior will be reinstalled by thursday afternoon (dash cracked when i smacked it against the seatbelt runner... d'oh... but i can't find another dash for it so i'm SOL for now). i took it out during the swap to get the brake pedal out.... unnecessary but that's just what i did.

brakes suck... working on a brembo/hawkHPS stock-size fronts, z31-size rear discs (currently stock disc/drum w/ duralast pads.. ick)

suspension and handling suck too. doing full rebuild of that stuff (tierods, ball joints, LCA bushings, rear link bushings, struts, SE springs/sways, rebuilding PS pump as well)

getting a VLSD tranny/axles/hubs this week, and will put that in when i put in my freshened-up spare engine, complete with repainted manifolds and the works. and a near-perfectly matched set of injectors (all 12.5 ohms +/- 0.1ohm). definitely getting rid of those exhaust leaks too.

after all that.... replacing my ENTIRE interior for some sexy brown leather to go with a fresh coat of this color paint.

but not before i cut the roof out and install the sunroof from my parts car

and once ALL OF THAT is done... time for some new shoes.

budget: $3000-5000

price depends a lot on mechanicals.........

My girl and picked up our 93 gxe for 970 plus tax and title. It was a good car until it slipped the t-belt. I just went thru replacing it and the tensioner, but didnt do the tensioner spring. It has now slipped the belt again.....both times at low idle and just died. Trust me, these are a pain if the belt goes. I am in the process of a replacement again.

Trannys arent all that bad as long they are taken care of. Ours has over 270k on it and still working well.

if the timing belt came off while the car was running, do a compression check on all the cylinders. there is an extremely likely chance that you have at least one cylinder with no compression,

When the timing belt snaps, etc., the valves will be out of sync and usually go crashing into the cylinder heads. This requires a head job (at least) before you are back to good. Make sure you are looking into that if you lost a timing belt!

1991maxima1991's car.... his car is actually black, but the blue sky or something blue near him was reflecting onto his car.... that's what ave me the idea to have it that color. but as you can see, dark blue (natural or artificial) 89-91SE looks SICK.
