Shifter is sticking!

I have a 92 SE 5 spd. When i shift into gears there is a resistance, i used to only be when i shifted into third, now its all the gears. Is it my clutch, or do i need some new buckings or somthing?

try lubing your shifter bushings.. pull off the cover over your shifter and you'll see one.. then crawl under the car and you'll see another on the linkage that attaches the shifter to the tranny... I lubed mine last weekend and it made a HUGE difference in the shifter feel and smoothness.

What do you lube it with, how hard is it to replace the bushing and whats the cost?

i also had that problem but it was more serious that greasing the bushing. for me it was the retaining clips on the throw out bearing...everything was in great shape, accept those little 2 dollar clips broke and basically it was like the clutch was enguaged(normal driving) all the time.

Thats not a tough problem to fix...

Just don't push the clutch all the way to the floor when you shift. Push it to just past the friction point and it shifts like butter. Don't ask me why this works but it did for me!

Woah! Weird stuff, my car does this too (sometimes)! You're like the 3rd or 4th person I've heard of that has this problem. Mine has problems shifting into 1st or reverse (and I don't wanna hear no advice on how to improve my driving - it's NOT ME )

Anyway, even though this is getting old for me, does anyone know what this is?

Bman I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I had the same prob
you had and it ended up being me paying $1700 to rebuild my tranny!
I suggest you check your motor mounts that could be the problem in reverse but if you or having probs with first gear see a mechanic! Dont do like me when it first started happening at 200,000 miles i ignored it> Tranny's will only last so long and mines lasted for about 225,000 miles. Good luck hope you don't have the prob I had.

Thanks Ron, I'll have to spend some time and look into that later on. Right now I'm busy (trying) to get other work done on my car. It's really only bothersome once in a while so sometimes I forget... only to be rudely reminded at some embarrasing moment
