e36 Headlight And Grll Problem

Hi all i know there is a lot of info on the e36 conversion but i just wanted to get some input. I have already put in 1 e36 headlight in the car and it looks pretty good. But now i have a problem putting back on the grill. The grill clips don't line up anymore where they are supposed to go into. So is there another way of attaching the grill (a 3rd hand way ) if you know what i mean. Thanks for your time and help

Why wouldn't the grill line up anymore. You did something wrong, cut something that didn't need cutting. My E36's didn't effect te grill one little bit.

I Have the e36 euro if that makes a difference. Now i notice your housing is different then mine. Yours actually look like they belong on the car. Mine stick out. I know there is a whole bunch of info on the e36's, but i can't get mine to look like that. Do i have to use a different housing for the lights, do i leave them in the e36 housing. I just don't know. Now I'm confused.

Without images, I'm not sure anyone can give you input or direction. However, shooting in the dark.....I would agree you've cut something or failed to cut something that is in your way. The Euro lights are much larger and require significant more modification. I have done several BMW swaps and originally had the US spec lights. I still had to spend several extra hours cutting away at the front of my car to get the Euro projector lights to sit even close to where I wanted them. I still have to go back and re-work them to make them sit properly and be decently secured.

In reference to the grill....there are a couple of options. First, you could shave some off at the edges of the grill to allow them to sit between the headlights. Or, you could attach the grill to the hood. A third option could be to get some bolts, nuts, and washers, installing them in place of the plastic clips so to extend the grill out a bit further so the edges sit in front of the lights.

But again, not sure how to help you becuase we've not seen what you've done.

Hello i have made a new thread about grill mods and the post i posted in there i will post here as well since it was 1st brought up to me in here.

Hello i was wondering, i saw a few people with the grill modded such as attached to the hood. I was wondering if there was a write up or if someone that already done this could give a little right up and a few pictures if possible. Thank you all

If you attach the grill to the hood, how do you get to the hood latch?

simple he used the clear WADE or GTS headlight covers and made them fit to the E36 housing. its a tedious process to do that and very time consuming and that is why his lights sit flush to the contour lines of the 3rd gen maxima. i was considering in doing this but opted for another way to make my lighting better. here is a link to what im talking about ---> http://forums.maxima.org/3rd-generat...eadlights.html. still a project in the process and just haven't been able to finish but i will someday.

i know this has nothing to do with your grille fitting problem but like everyone else on here says: "you probably cut something you weren't supposed to."

how would this affect the latch mechanism? the grille is, what an inch, inch and a half thick? the latch on the hood is, what, two, three inches away from the edge?

safety latch, you know how you pop the hood and then slide your hand BETWEEN the grill and hood to release it? that would be a lot harder to do then.

Three options with the grille mounted on the hood (BTW: I know becuase my grille has been on my hood for many years now). First, if you have a stock early model grille, there is just enough space to reach your fingers through as the hood comes up, to release the switch. If it is a newer grille, there is no such room. However, I installed gutter guard/mesh in my grille and could not access the latch. So, the option then was to get a manual choke cable from AutoZone and run it from the safety latch to beneath the front bumper.....pop the hood from inside, walk up front and reach down to pull the safety latch....hood will open up. Third option is naturally hood pins. I had to go with hood pins becuase I had to completely remove my hood match mechanism for my oil and intercooler.
