there are so many rims out there, and most of them will fit. the biggest questions will be
a.) what are you looking for in a rim size? width? depth(offset)? height/diameter?
b.) are you dropped?
c.) are you just asking, or is there a budget?

our cars use a 5x114.3 or 5x4.5 bolt pattern (they are the same pattern)
I have seen 3rd gens with 22's. ridiculously huge. I have seen some with rims as wide as 9"(perhaps bigger, but not sure). I have seen major offsets, even, in the range of 50+(using spacers + longer studs).

thats a pretty low budget. when I got new tires about a year ago, they were almost $500. and you don't want to skimp much on the rubber. its the only thing on the road. cheap tires wont last long, or wont grip in bad weather.

you may check and see if there are any newer mustang rims and tires on craigslist.com they can look good and save yourself some cash getting used.

that is a pretty low budget for a set unless you friends that have friends that might be selling rims. if you put 17's or 18's on your car at stock height, its going to look like you are going on an offroad adventure. but we/i the .org can understand that you have a budget. just go to craigslist.com and wait what comes up for sale for rims in your area. i got my current infinity fx35 18inch rims from there for like $250 locally without tires. i then went to my job and told my friend that i needed tires and he told me to give him $200 for all 4 Bridgestone Potenza 225/40/18 brand new runflat tires. i priced them after i bought them at my job and my tires sell for about $350 each. just wait and see what comes up, you might get lucky and score an awesome deal on a nice set of stocks or aftermarket rims.

i got some 17x7+22mm yesterday for $75 and i'm putting them on with P215/50R17 tires. I'm thinking about doing whichever spring gives a 1.2" drop (eibach iirc?). i know the offset is a bit low but i put one on and it didn't stick out too terribly far from stock (i mean it's only 13mm difference so that's like 1/2")

now i just need some of those pop-in Nissan centercaps b/c they are actually chrysler 300C rims

Yeah Eibachs are 1.2 inch.

17s are a good choice IMO, only wheel size I've seen where you can get a tire that is only .1% different from stock in terms of outside diameter.

16" are pretty good if you're not looking for a drop. Almost any 16" rim you get will look way better than stock, but won't make your car look like a 4x4 like 17's or 18's would. You could look into the 97-99 Maxima SE 5 spoke wheels, they look pretty good and give the car a nice OEM feel. And $800 is too bad of a budget. I only spent $250 on my Altima rims + tires...

That said, I still need to drop the car; doesn't look horrible, but lower is better in my case.

IMO I think 5th gen 17" and 16" make the 3rd gen look way better than those prehistoric stingray and semi circular 15 "ers. I personally fit me Titanium Edition polished 17x7 on the car and wow!!! I still bought another set of wheels ( MB Drifters) because it had enough room for Brembo Gran Turismo brakes and no fitment issues!

800 is not that bad... thats a decent budget when you are purchasing rims/tires for a 15+ yr old car... i got mine from a guy on craigs list for 300 with tires... some tires i recommend Fuzion HRi tires... i have 265/65/17... i think... dont wanna go to the garage and check *LAZY*... anyways.. these are nice tires, but are no longer made... BUT you can go to your local Firestone or Bridgestone then they will prolly have some in stock...

Yeah, SVT Rims aren't strong, plentiful, attractive or inexpensive; They're not perfect sized, don't have a perfect offset, prefect bolt pattern, or Center bore either.

18-by-what? 18x7? 18x8? 18x9? 225 is a tiny bit narrow for what most people use with 18's

go here. enter in the tire size you want to run on the left side and uncheck the rim/offset info, that way it will suggest the right one for you.

http://www.wheelsmaster.com/rt_specs.jsp

you want the outside diameter as close to 25.5" as possible. plus/minus half an inch is OK. mine are 25.9" tall (225 50 17)

Exactly what rims are the ones on the first two cars of post #23, the ones on Michael's (not that I really know who that is...) car?

What's your opinion, have you seen anyone with more than 18's, or 19's ? If so , would I need to buy new struts or a 2" lift kit for my Maxima?

Might rub, turning radius will be horrible and yes it will ride rough because in order to fit your gonna have to run a rubber band tire. Watch out for pot holes! Why you want to put 20s on it? They'll look like goofy azz 24s on this car (donk). Unless thats what your into. You won't get to enjoy all the aspects of the 3rd gen suspension.
