Shocks to Recommend…
Shocks to Recommend…
Here's my question…
I'm going to need to install some new shocks soon. I'd like to do better-than-stock ones, but I don't feel the need for the more expensive brands (Koni, KYB, Tokiko, etc.). I honestly can't afford them now, and I'm NOT lowering my car like I did my Accord (Eibach springs w/Yellow Koni adjustable shocks). Don't get me wrong, the ride was cool, but I'm not looking to do all that anymore. I do plan on having larger wheels (17s) & lower-profile tires (45-50z) soon
, and I want to have the new shocks installed close to the time I get my new wheels & tires to avoid uneven treadwear.
Any suggestions? I'd like to get away with spending no more than $350 installed.

I didn't need/want them at all, but I browsed at some shocks a while ago and the KYBs are CHEAP CHEAP compared to the Tokicos. Most people here recommend KYB as a stock replacement (or possibly very slight upgrade).

I can't justify not getting the tokicos since they can be had for $280. I would rather pay the extra cash and have something a lot better. But then again he won't be lowering the car anyway...so go with kyb's

www.eatricezone.com has them for about $190 total according to his site
it's run by a .org member "got rice?"
If you live in southern California, Pep Boys will replace them for you for about 50 bucks a piece (front). This is well worth it. It is a major pain to change these. I don't plan on doing this job again. It was my first time doing front struts and it took me about 4 or 5 hours.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Thanks, JMac…
JMac, I do live in L.A., but I will definitely PASS on the Pep Boys service thang. Thanks, but NO THANKS!
I wouldn't trust them with my car, and I'd caution you about yours too
. My brother had a very frustrating experience with the one on PCH & Normandie in Harbor City, when they were working on his car, and after that ordeal, I've decided to steer clear of Pep Boys (I'd stay away from Winston Tire, too - my own experience!!!).
DA-MAX, I was curious about the ride you have with your KYBs and the Sprint springs. Is your ride significantly stiffer, damn-near rigid, or is it comparable to the stock ride (with the exception of being lower and probably a more 'sturdy' I guess would be the term I'm looking for)?
I've seen the Sprint springs go pretty reasonable for a complete set (JC Whitney had the whole set for $180), but I'm not all that familiar with them. I really don't want to lower my ride, but I may decide to do so if I get close to the kind of ride I'm looking for (my main issue is that I'm ALWAYS driving around with other people in my car, so I'm trying to avoid the rubbing I used to get in my Accord.) If the combo of Sprint, ST, or whatever works for enough people, I may decide to take the advice and lower it. If there's any springs out there that provide the performance without the harshness and the excessive drop, I'd be interested, but I've been on the board for awhile, and I haven't seen that animal surface yet (but then again, I may be in the forest looking for kangaroos, yadig?)
Thank you all for your advice and opinions on this subject. I'm sure that those of you who know have helped out more people than just me, and I'm grateful for it.
