engine or transmission issue

I had just gotten back from NC so the max was sitting for a week. I went to start it and the engine started at about 1200 rpms. It sounded goodso I turned around and drove up to the stopsigh when I noticed that the car would not go when I gave it some gas.wel the car got moving about a second later when the revs went up to over 2K. I kept driving a short distance hoping that it would get better. I hit a stopligh and the same thing happened. I went down hill and then uphill where the car slowed to 15mph during this time the car would hesitate to shift. Worried I pulled into a store to turn around where my revs bounced between 500 to 1000 rpm. When I got home I waited and checked the trans fluid. It was light brown. I started it today and the engine ran for 4 seconds before stalling out. I think that I have a missing vacum line also. 1992 VG GXE
any help, thanks.

Did u put it in neutral/park and give it a little gas to see if it would still do it?

if it's hesitating to shift, you could have a bad throttle position sensor.. I have heard that the TPS also plays a part in how much fuel is delivered to the engine... so that could possibly explain sputtering ... but I don't know if that would adequately explain stalling outright.

damn that's a crappy pic but i think based on seeing the oil filter down there, what we're looking at the fuel pressure regulator vac line.

The picture looks like the transmission vent hose, so it shouldn't be connected to anything.
Hard to tell what is causing the issue, but I would start looking for large vacuum leaks after the AFM, perhaps one of the clamps on the intake ducting is loose and the ducting joint has opened up? Then next, possibly a faulty AFM.

well they replaced the distributor, new spark plug wires, and replaced a couple of hoses.

try re-asking that question here:

http://forums.maxima.org/northeastern-u-s-11/

i'm sure there's SOMEONE in that forum that knows of a good full-service shop in the NYC metro area.

WTF?
any decent shop can do it easily.
just pull out your local phone book and start calling.
You could do it yourself too if you have tools.
