gas tank straps

On my way to work the other day, one of my gas tank straps snapped. it rotted apart. While I was under the car assesing the damages, I noticed that my gas tank was still very secure, even with only one strap. I checked my Haynes Repair Manual, and it shows a picture of a gas tank, attached to the car, but with no straps! Is it safe to drive my 89 on the highway, with only one strap, to get to my shop?

since 1 strap broke....the other one is on it's way out. it's a good idea to replace the broken one. a VERY good idea.
