instrument panel removal

my speedometer died, but sometimes it will work, so I know that the cruise control works, so i dont think that it would be the VSS. so i would like to know how to remove the instrument panel, and what wires are connected to the speedometer so that i can test them.
.ps i already searched through the post and i had no luck finding this information.

ya cut those two wires behind the clock so ur clock will stay bright all the TIME...Locate the red wire with the yellow stripe and the black wire with the red stripe. You will need to cut both.

wat? WHY???
the last thing I want at night is a bright *** clock blinding me, cutting my vision.

actually, there is a way to disable the key-in-ignition warning chime. a true annoyance when working on the car with the door open. see craig brace's page on it.(warning chime mod)
also the always-on cruise is a good one, too. (same page)

for the speedo from what I found out when I had my 89, is that the board in the cluster can be cracked causing the speedo not to work all the time. It's easily cracked pulling the cluster out due to getting it out from behind the steering wheel. If your cruise still works that could be your issue due to the signal from the speed sensor goes to that then to the cluster. other then that fallow the wires and look for a lose harness.

mine wouldn't work when it was cold but tend to work when it was warm.

i had to chuck the speedo and the temp sensor from the cluster, actually. I stole the one outta my friend's [future] car but i'm getting one from goon for him.

i would smack it and it would come back up but sometimes drop a half-second later and i got fed up trying to smack the darn cluster while driving (i broke the little rest-peg for the temp needle too so i was like w/e)

Running a search for "digital dash conversion" yields many results.

Man, don't link to that biter's page.. He's a thief and a opportunist. Had my video embedded in there originally and when I asked him to credit me for it, he just deleted it without so much as a response. Not to mention it's basically a clone of my page (http://pearlmax.t35.com/dd/dd/digidash.htm) only more detailed, explaining how to remove everything because he had nothing of any real significance to add.

Dude, see that metal box on the back of the cluster? Cut either one of the wires, or just remove it completely.

Craig evidently stopped supporting it more than a year and a half ago. He had some great write-ups.

I have a link for clock repair and that's all I have.

http://classic-web.archive.org/web/2...ock/clock.html

I have a link to anoter person's website who also has some how-to's. Maybe one of his will help.

Great, thank you so much for the help. I will certainly read those posts and see if they are useful or not.

This link is very helpful (http://classic-web.archive.org/web/2...ock/clock.html). I also have the same issue with my clock. I fixed my clock while I was doing the instrument cluster. One of the electrolytic capacitors (100uf/16v) is leaking pretty badly. I soldered it off and replaced it with a new one (100uf/25v). Hopefully it will last me for years to come. Originally I thought the temperature meter also have a leaky capacity which caused the jumpy problem. Unfortunately, it only has resistors and diodes. So I cleaned the circuit and also sanded the contact, then put it back without replacing any components.
Again, thanks for the links. That was really helpful. BTW, I did take some photos, not sure how to post them though.
