Ignition question

Hello!

As some of you know I've just get my Max back on the road again, and been my daily driver for a week now I've notice something weird at the ignition time.

The Morning when I start the car I can hear a couple of cranks and then it starts normally, at least it sounds normal for me, but then I drive it for about 30min or so and I have to do a quick stop at a market or something, and then I been feeling that restarting the car after being off for about 5 min it starts weird, can I say too soon? can't even hear a crank, less than 1/2 sec I turn the key and the engine is already on, I even heard like something lke "slipping" but I guess that was because I'm used to leave a whole sec the key turned, so now in the morning I turn the key for 1 second but if I just drive the car for a while I just turn it as fast as i can and release it and indeed turns on.

The questions: is this normal? sometime ago an org member suggest me (when I had other problems) to check my ignition timing, is that related to this? if it's suggested to check ignition timing, how do I do that?

Thanks!

actually it sounds to me like your fuel line is losing pressure when it sits for a while.
that can be checked with a fuel pressure gauge tapped into the fuel line by the filter.

so, do you mean exactly the oposite to what I was thinking? The "super fast" start is normal and the one it takes a second to start could be fuel pressure lost? But I've seen many cars to take even longer that my "morning" start. That's why I thought it was normal, my dad's corolla take even longer cranks to start, well I dont' know if this is something to worry about, but I'll try to get a fuel pressure gauge and check, Thanks!

yes I do mean just that.
my old VEs would start with a quick blip of the key. my wife's van on the other hand is a long cranker.
I prefer a quick blip personally.
My brothers car took me 5 minutes to start the other night, it had been sitting for a couple of months though.

You're never happy aren't you? Now it starts too fast ... Just kidding - try to turn your key in ON position without starting in the morning for few seconds to let fuel pump build pressure and then turn it to START. If the idea of loosing fuel pressure is correct car should start as fast as it starts after some driving.

LOL

Sometimes I feel paranoic with my car now, yesterday the sun was reflecting at the dashboard and I thought I had CEL on again, but nah, it was just the reflection!! I still think this "trouble-free" moment will end at any moment

Well but really I don't remember the Max had ever started like this and of course I also personally like the fast start, but I just want to know if it's normal or I should worry about something else.

Speaking of being paranoic, I still feel the exahust is too stinky and I'm worried failing emissions tests, however it's still a year long, I have to do it July 09.

Ok, I'll check that fuel pressure Thanks!

Ok, I did check with the key in ON position and leave it there for a few seconds and no, it takes the same time, one second aprox (about a crank or two). It starts way faster when the car is warm.

Should I leave this alone? it doesn't seem to cause trouble but I'm just concerned if this requires attention or not, well it actually got my attention but I mean, should I keep driving it like this without worries, I don't know I keep thinking the parts related from my previous problems might be involved (alt-batt-starter)

Well, it seems it is not fuel pressure - related. I doubt alt-batt-starter have anything to do with this. Honestly, I don't know what can cause your quick starts, sorry.
