IM adapter to put an 00VI on a VE?

I've been thinking about having a machine shop make an IM adapter for quite some time. There will be a few things to work out like the rear coil packs and hood clearances, but all in all, I'm pretty sure that it's possible. What do you guys think and would anybody else be interested in an IM adapter?

Oooohh, that sounds like a LOT of work for not much gain.

If I went to all the trouble for that, I would make sure there was a VQ engine underneath it.

Have you seriously sat down and looked at all of the stuff bolted to, supported by, and related to the intake manifold?

Drivability issues would abound, not to sound harsh, but you may be all alone on this one. Add a turbo to the existing manifold for not much more trouble and a lot more power.

well 505, what are your thoughts about having the 00VI attached instead of our already Variable Intake for a VE (VEVI if you will )

if your auto... you sure can swap the VE intake with the auto intake without any problems i presume. Aaron has a VEVI on his auto.

things I would consider is if the bore of the plenum is bigger and/or if it has more of a volume of air it holds compared to the VEVI

instead of making an adapter... see how the lower intake mani would fit in the valley

idk just throwin things out there

you'd be better off to make a custom intake instead.... cost would be a bit more, but you'd get much better gains.

isnt building an intake manifold very articulate and if something is wrong... the WHOLE thing is wrong?

what are the things you have to pay attention to when creating one?

lol @ negativity

First off, I don't want a turbo, I want to stay NA. I would like a VQ35, but it would be ALOT more work than an 00VI. I just installed a newer/improved VE and I made quite a bit of effort to make it look purdy.

Why would it be that much more difficult to install an 00VI on a 3rd gen vs. a 4th gen? The only things that I see as challenges are the adapter, coilpacks, and clearances. As far as the adapter, I'd just have a machine shop make one. I already have a simple solution for the coil packs. And clearances would be determined once I get my hands on an 00VI.

Drivability issues??? The engine would behave the same as before except it would have more power up top and down low. Can you get that with a custom non-VI IM?

Marshal- The VE IM is garbage in my eyes. The VI in the VEVI isn't the same as the VI in the 00VI...

Oh yeah, the 00VI is plastic and resists heat transfer.

IIRC, VQ30DE's gain 15-20whp by adding an 00VI.

none of my posts were anything negative about your idea

I was just posting about things I would look at

Once you get your hands on an 00VI post your thoughts, we can brainstorm

plus the VE is different enough from the VQ that he may not notice anywhere the gains the VQ does... though it could be more, he'll never know unless he tries it i guess.

but at least he'll be immortalized in the stickies.

not that anyone ever reads the stickies.

I guess I should've directed my comment toward the first reply to my thread.

I agree with what you said, if I was looking for more peak power. A custom IM has crossed my mind a few times, but I think the 00VI would be more suitable for a broad power band and less heat soak, unless the custom IM that you're refering to would be constructed of plastic and also have VI.

true...

I'm pretty sure that the VE gains would be fairly similar to the gains that the VQ receives even though the engines are very different.

I have to disagree.. Even though the IM your talking about is probably better, the VE IM is no joke. Definatly not garbage.

Have you looked inside a VE IM?

It's not really garbage, but compared to an 00VI it is.... IMHO

No, I just see what it does to the non VI VQ IM Which apparently makes more torque..

Edit: Also if my memory serves me right, I remember something about it not having much room for improvement from porting..

Sort of. I might still have an adapter made in the future, but for now I'm making this because it's cheaper and will probably provide more peak power than an 00VI.

Me!! I sold 1 last week and about to sell another this week. Will have another one available very very soon. I lost track of how many I've sold all together.
