If I had known the rain was going to be this intense, I obviously would've moved it.
Before I took the pics, I disconnected the battery, hooray. After that I cleared the street drain of leaves, that got rid of ALL the water.
Then I went out there with the jack and raised the front to drain water from the exhaust. Leaves and branches took up every empty spot under the hood, cleared some of those out. There is a puddle on the passenger side, I dont think it got to the ECU like it did last year, but I'll find out later.
Game plan is just like last year's flood: remove and dry seats, re-pad carpet, check things over, giddyup. Oil seals are good everywhere, so water couldnt have gotten in the engine or tranny. The CAI cone was underwater though, so I'll replace that for sure.
And for reference, here is the thread from its flood in August 2007: http://forums.maxima.org/3rd-generat...-how-ends.html

I think I'm going to take this opportunity to install a bunch of sound deadening, and I'll probably drain the engine oil after all, just as a precaution. Here is a pic from the submerged side:

ECU is dead-ish, time to get my 3rd ECU for this car.
I dont think it got in the water though. Maybe it got a current once the alternator was underwater? It would be interesting to find out, but I dont feel like browsing through the relay diagrams.

Batt can drain as the charge wires short to gnd via water, possibly damage alt regulator = no charge.
ECU should be ok if water level did not rise at it. Why u think ECU is dead?
edit: u must get a remote alarm, integrate a flood level float-switch in it. Doors sealed...

After I turned it off, it wouldnt operate correctly again and it seemed like the ECU was in failsafe mode, which is what happened last time. The fans run when the key is in the On position, which is one of the symptoms.

Batt didnt have much time to drain, I removed the negative cable as soon as I got out there. I actually started it up after checking around and a bit of cleanup, and drove it out of the street.

O2 and its wiring definitely dived.
Did water ? reach relay box under water reservoir ---> relays drunk = fans ON. Also if ECTS temp sensor loses contact, fans do come on.

Failsafe comes on if sensor input is missing, like crank angle. Maybe water in connectors, lost distr gnd or water inside cap... ; belts whip moisture around...

Should have come parked it at my place...Covered multi-level parking FTW. I have never seen rain as hard as that in my life! Definitely waded thru a few puddles on the way home...My only concern was my CAI, but I think it's OK. Sorry to see that again, Mike. Seriously, next time it starts raining like that bring your car over to my place and I will give you a ride home.

Probably, but I doubt they would contain so much water. Its not a boat, there are many ways in. Are new door seals available in some generic form to just cut and attach, or is that more of a dealer part. I know some of them have distinct shapes.
I cleaned up the engine bay, exhaust, and suspension. Reconnected the oil pressure harness which came loose. When I tried to start it, I still saw symptoms of a bad ECU. I pulled off the panel and saw the constant red LED, as I expected, but then when I turned the diagnostic screw clockwise/counterclockwise, it seemed to reset it somehow, so now its working fine! I ran the engine at idle for a while and everything seems OK, aside from some other problem noises I was already aware of.
This afternoon I did buy a replacement ECU out of haste, so I'll have an extra now. Took out the interior this evening, its all drying now.

New ECU is sitting in the box for now, mine seems fine after all. I had a massively busy weekend, so I didnt do much with the car except a bit of extra cleaning inside, and took out the lap belts to dry becuase I forgot to before.
I'll try to put it back together today, or maybe later this week. I'm reading up on sound deadening right now, so if I choose to add any while its all apart then this will take a few extra days.
