thanks for the tip i went to autozone and baught a haynes book for the 85-92 maxima. i got the clutch out finally and replaced the clutch with ease. only took about 1 1/2 hrs to put it all back together to thats cool. however, even before i swapped the clutch i heard a weird (tapping, clicking, knocking) sound but only when the clutch was not being compressed. when i compress the clutch the knocking noise goes away. and ideas??

that book is so worthless. I got an fsm, and now I dont know where the haynes is. fortunately, i didn't waste money on it; it came with the car.

input shaft bearing. Do a 3rd gen specific search on them. Lots of results will come up.

how far into the job are you already? I've removed/installed my tranny 4 times (swap, clutch, VLSD swap, engine swap), and matt's once (engine swap). So i pretty much can get it on the ground in 2 hours with hand tools.... so what are you lacking right now?

You might find one in the Charlotte area pull-a-part.

http://www.pullapart.com/Inventory/Main.aspx

manual trannies are around $50 there.
