What size speakers can go in the front doors?

I know that the factory default are 4x6's, but I don't want to buy those size speakers - they're expensive. I know you also have to mount the speakers in wood or something because the screw holes are in an odd place. Anyways, is there any other size speaker other than 4x6's that'll fit in the front door without making any modifications to the door itself?

HOLD UP!

Alright the speaker size depends on whether you have the Bose system or not. First of all if you have the Bose system, you have to replace everything at once (i.e. deck, speakers, and possibly an amp). If you have the Bose I do believe the speakers are circular and somewhere around 5.25". I'm not positive on that. If you don't have the Bose system you have the "Active Speaker" system. Having replaced my speakers in my car which does not have Bose, I know all about the "Active Speaker" system. It has 6.75"s (yes 6.75", not 6.5" although those will fit with a bracket) in the back and 4x6"s in the front. I fit 6.75"s in the front with a custom made bracket. Others have fit 6.5"s up front easily and I know one person on the boards fit 6x9"s in the front but did not recommend trying to do so. He said it was more work than it was worth. If you have any more questions please post them up.

bose speakers are 1 ohm jobs that are 4" round. in their own ported enclosure.
the non-bose speakers are typical 4 ohm drivers 4x6 in size. you can drop just about any brand of 4x6 in there you want without problems, but the best thing to do is make custom plates and use a 5.25 or 6.5" up front. I will be fitting 8s in there soon, so stay tuned.

so 4x6's will fit perfectly without me having to mount it in a block of wood or something? I have the active speaker sytem (I've replaced so much though, that I doubt that's what it would be called anymore). The front speakers are shot, but not the amp. if 4x6's will fit perfectly, I'll just get those.

rumor has it that 8" can be fit in. so it is possible to throw a 8in sub down there.. but fitment of the magnet may be tough, especially if you still want to use your windows.

i have 6.5. you need to make a custom pod. i had a bit of trouble with the magnet in back with the 6.5, but i got it to fit.

Dammit man! You remind me of myself when I first came here... oh wait, you remind me of me now.. errr... anyway.. use the search function. I've only been on here for like 4 months and I've seen this subject about 20 times.. it's much easier to use search anyway, instant answers..

ouch, 8's matt? god i had a helluva time trying to shove
my 6.5's in my door because of the stupid magnet.
any suggestions on positioning of the magnet?
I had originally built wood pods that held the speaker
away from the door a bit but they hit the door panel so
i scrapped them and ended up mangling the bose pod. I'm
planning to redo them eventually...

Hmm.... unless....
you were going to do the same with this car as your old car...
Take lotsa pix dood!!
