How much does it cost to get the max lowered about 1 1/2"
If it's not too hard of a job, I may be able to bring the car into my auto tech teacher and ask him if he can do it. All I really need to know is:
1) Will it require any parts?
2) How much work is it to do it yourself?
3) How long would it take to do?
4) How much would it cost to have profesionally done?

Re: You guys are SO helpfull
You don't have to buy new springs, you can cut them. But beware, you can cut them unevenly. I've seen it done before. If you do cut, it is recommended that you cut in small increments, don't just lop off a large section. After cutting each side (not your final cut), you have to see if your height is equal for both sides.

There is no safe way to cut springs. Cutting oem springs may reduce the factory spring temper and will force the spring to behave in a way it was not designed. If you cannot afford to get the correct lowering springs(like $150 for the cheap ones), don't do it at all.

Re: Re: You guys are SO helpfull
well before this guy doesn't do a search and follow the horrible advice of cutting the springs ill take a minute...
1) Will it require any parts?
lowering springs and struts...
2) How much work is it to do it yourself?
if you have mechanical experience....enough...if you have none...then a lot
3) How long would it take to do?
anywhere from 4 hours to days depending on your experience
4) How much would it cost to have profesionally done
i've seen quotes from 300 to 600 bucks for just labor...

i am not a smart man. however i just put springs and kyb agx's all around. why replace 1/2 the parts????? it you put a fresh coat of paint on crap it's still crap. my 2 cents
and if you have blots that are stripped or rusted that need to be hacksawed off it will take time. do it with another car handy so you can get parts if need be.
get a factory service manual or haynes/chilton manual and plan ahead.

If
If you have an auto tech teacher who is willing and knowledgeable, by all means use his services.
You'll need the struts and springs for sure as far as parts. If your school has an alignment rack, that's a definite plus as an alignment can cost you anywhere from $50-$70 depending on where you live.
Take a look at www.tirerack.com. They seem to have a the best price on suspension parts.
Take a look at which suspension set up you want to buy, include shipping & cost of alignment if applicable and you'll get your total cost.
If you want to do this yourself, you'll need to buy yourself some tools and that can add up. Here's some of the things you'll need. 2 Jackstands, Spring Compressor, Torque Wrench, Breaker Bar, Some Sockets that didn't come with your standard socket set, a vice if you don't have one.
Also, an assistant is highly recommeneded.
Hope this helped.

I'll talk to my auto tech teacher
Since labor isn't a problem, I'm gonna try and go through my auto tech teacher to get it done. He said he'd do it if I got all the parts. Now it's a matter of finding the right springs. The only problem I might run into is having my mom tell me "I don't need it" again. It's pretty pathetic, and I've had to have stuff done without my mom knowing.

I think it's good that you're not cutting your springs - especially since you have soft GXE springs to begin with. I don't know if you've talked it over with this shop teacher, but I imagine he would've given you similar advice. Now with proper lowering springs and new struts you'll notice a nice handling improvement too!
btw, good luck with your mom - I know what you mean!
