if you have all hand tools.... probably a weekend or slightly longer. If you already know what you are doing and/or have air tools, then you can probably do it a bit quicker. is your car 5spd? it's hard remembering who on here has what sometimes. what stuff do you plan to touch up on this motor pre-install? at least timing belt... gonna reseal it or anything while you're in there?

oh and what happened to your engine? oil leak turned into oil gush? any good carnage to take pics of?

if you need a hand with it you can purchase my services.. just done a pair of VG maxima engine swaps within the last 2 months. Vineland is like 40 miles from my sister's house. i could use a source of income...

If u can, buy a low mileage JDM from Ebay for $650 and have it shipped to your buddy's shop. JDM Engine Depot (877)955-9556
You will be so glad u did in the long run. I know I am. GL

Prompt and correct only happen with

1. Experience...

2.Correct tools for the job.

If you lack both, it will not happen prompt nor correct.

greeny- my buddy has both, i have experience, just not with fwd vehicles.

capedcadaver- its a ve30 engine, the vg30 is gone. and as of right now, she's sitting in carneys point. i had it towed there monsday night. i already have a motor sitting there, so i am just gonna go with that, since it is my best option. if i had the $$$$, i'd sit it aside and buy this 1993 bmw 5 series for $1600. i dont know what it needs as of yet, but i will find out eventually.

Well then, if he knows what he is doing already, then why start a thread asking for advice? who's doing the swap, you or him?

There is nothing special or particular about a ve swap, they are the same as any other fwd v6 swap, the main issue is clearance when removing the engine, all fwd v6's are basically stuffed into the engine bay, just go slow when lifting or dropping the engine from the bay to avoid snagging the engine on parts you don't want to be broken off.

one thing that's easy to forget to unhook is the big ground cable... when we were pulling the dead motor out of matt's car i forgot to do that (course i'd been working on it alone for like 16 hours already at that point, it was dark out, and i was tired... i went to bed finally about 2 days later (wednesday night, started monday morning, went to work on tues/wed). get some string or wire to tie the a/c compressor out of the way, as well as the brakes to tie them to the springs.

the way i hoist the motor is alot more complicated than how most do it... I use a full 15ft of chain and only have about 6in excess when i finish wrapping the motor up the way i like it. i start on one tranny bolt take the chain up over the engine, then down and loop under the exhaust manifold, then take the chain around the rear of the engine, under the rear exhaust manifold, over top of the engine again (so there's 2 loops on top) and then down to a tranny bolt on the backside. it's very sturdy that way. just be careful not to pinch anything that you need access to while the engine is suspended... otherwise you'll have to drop it back down and adjust the chain positioning.

- all we have left to do is rip my motor out, and put the replacement in. it was pretty easy removing it from the old car. we might beparting out the car if he decides to, i will post it in the classifieds as soon as i get the okay. just to let you kno ahead of time, the hood, and motor [OBVIOUSLY] are not for sale. its a 93 auto se. white like mine. the front driver seat may not be available either.

pm me for more details...

-when i registered, i had a 92 Gxe, and i got my SE in August. I just never changed mydisplay name. can i even do that without having to re-register????
