transmission leaking BAD!!
i swapped motors in my gfs 93. b4 the trans was fine, now when i put trans fluid in it pours out where the drivers side axle goes in i replaced the axle seal but it still does it as much as it did b4. what did i mess up?

i dont mean to doubt what your saying but its practically pouring out like a really heavy stream. so there isnt anything in the trans that may have broke that would make it do this? so you wouldnt think that it would be very expensive to have a shop do it?

Yep, they can be.. one question though, did you get new seal from nissan, or did you get the autozone/advanced auto seal? If you didn't get the oem nissan seal, there is a good possibility that it is the problem.

it's not hard... it can just be annoying. i had to install a passenger side seal on-car this past thursday in a parking lot.... ypipe gets in the way of tapping it in directly, so i put a bunch of extensions together and used the side of my hand to hold the thing still while i tapped it in in various spots around the outer ring of the seal with those extensions, and a hammer. took maybe 5 minutes of tapping around the edge and (blindly) feeling for flushness.

Don't poke fun, I just ordered a battery for the I30!
and on friday I bypassed the PS cooler.
Of course this is all being done because I am trading it for a 2k malibu with 56k on it. which will promptly be sold, most probably for a honda civic.

but if it's for a VE tranny-specific part, i always say 93. cuz some 4th gens were made in 1994... so they might mix it up. i have alot to remember on my car... lots of year-specific items (brakes calipers f/r, rotors f/r, timing belt, injectors, axles/seals...)

Having a tranny prob what i seen here didnt really help but instead of making a new thread ill continue on this one since it isnt long but Yesterday i went to get in my car and tried to back out the drive way and yeah... umm i had zero tranny fluid the car was just sittin there on a slite slant front end down and all the fluid was on tha ground so i went under to take a look, cleaned it off to see that its coming out in two places and burning off my ypipe so i get a lot of smoke and it smells bad lol but yeah here are a few pix of the spots

If that is an a/t which it looks like then it could be from the torque converter or running from the axle seals. Just my experience from my 02 and tranny leak. But if its just from there then think about. What in that bell housing has tranny fluid? Aw that suck if the seal on the shaft is going.

lol man this is stupid... is there anyway for me to seal that up for the time being? and @ hectic no for one thing i dont know how to drive a 5sp and two i dont have the time for that... i like that pic tho a lil 3rd gen love... lol
#32
it's time to learn to actually drive, and do the swap
#34
the only way to seal it up is like Danno said.. gotta pull the tranny and fix it. well, unless you're a gyno and can to an automotive hysterectomy through the hole in the bellhousing from removing the starter.

Tranny Smell & Diagnostics
I've got a 93 GXE 4spe auto; just got the car a few weeks ago for my son. 1st - the fluid was very dark when i got the car. Sooo, I changed the fluid and used Schaeffer full synthetic. The next day I discovered the CV boots were ripped in half... I replaced both axles and lost most of my new tranny fluid (why didn't I check those first?). I put in the new axles and topped off the tranny with more fluid. Next thing I start smelling this aweful smell like a skunk. I have cleaned the motor up and under three times. There are no spills, leaks or anything that I can find. Next I discover there is an overflow vent coming out of the top pan on the tranny. I double checked the fluid level. Still have this horrible smell. I drove the car about 300 miles and everything is shifting fine just a terrible skunk smell. I got worried....change the fluid again with Valvoline Dex/Merc III. Smell is better but still there. Did I say the car didn't smell before I changed the fluid?
Next, I start looking at running the tranny diagnostic spelled out in my Hanes Manual. Can't get the diagnotic to run, the O/D OFF light doesn't come on for 2 seconds like it is supposed to when you start the car. NEED HELP!! Does anybody have info. on this topic. I don't know what to try next shy of taking it somewhere and having my shirt ripped off.
