Aussie maxima..se or gxe?

I've always had commodores, so im unsure as to why i bought my 93' Maxima 3 years ago. Anyway, i know nothing about my car. Was wondering if anybody could message me or tell me more about what sort it is, other than a 93 model and what specifications it has. Just a curiosity thing, thought i better start learning.

Wanting to add a picture and realised this was all i had...hmm pathetic, but its getting a polish LOL

Thanks, Cassandra
Oh and i am new to this sort of site, so i have no idea how things work.

You have what appears to be a SE model maxima, with a few modifications done to the body, like a fresh paint job, a GXE trunk lid, or a trunk lid that has had the factory spoiler removed, and the holes covered up. Also, whoever owned before you put the fender light on it, this is not a factory item.

The car looks great! nice find.

Therefore, if it's a 92-94SE, you have a 24v 190HP/190TQ VE30DE engine which has variable intake valve timing. You also have a viscous limited slip differential (only the VE got that. If you want it on a VG, gotta use a VE 5spd tranny. VE auto onto VG engine has not been done yet.)

O..... and that's just about the color I'm painting my car in 2 years once i get the majority of my desired mods out of the way and i'm done getting grease on my current paint.

Lets see, you have blacked window trim like an SE does, the wheels are SE.
you have painted mirrors like a GXE, and no spoiler like a GXE.
if you pop the hood and tell us if your valve cover says 24 valve or not we can be a little more certain of what it is.

As to the side marker lamp, it probably is an aftermarket add on that was required when the car was imported.

car was repainted.. mirrors probably got painted too. that isn't a stock color anyhow, so it could very well have all been painted.

Thanks heaps guys...i didnt know if that picture was enough, but seems like u can get a lot of infor from that. I just know absolutely nothing about maximas. As for the re-painthing, i've often wondered, because it is in pretty good condition, and a guy at a servo commented on the colour once. It does say in the handbook, blue, but there is no evidence of a re-spray though. The entire car is that blue?? just done a proper job of it?

It also has twin exhaust tips.

just went out to look under the hood, as for the 24 on the valve cover, can't see anything, will wait till my partener come home and has a look then ill re-post. But the engine bay is a slightly different blue..hmm just slightly though, i never noticed!!

Anyone got RH & LH rear electric window regulators for sale?

Also, I paid $5,000 for the car 3 years ago. Did i get a raping or was that ok?

Cheers guys

twin exhaust tips is another SE thing, but could have been changed, easily.
alot of people seem to forget that austrailia has maximas, and hit us up here.
we are mostly north american, but there are a few people from all continents.
so, conisdering an exchange rate of 3 years ago, today, USD ammount paid is $3,676 mebe a little high, for an american maxima, (mebe, but it was three years ago), but I am unsure about depreciation in austrailian cars.
and you may also want to hit up http://maximasdownunder.org , see if anyone who is local there may be able to save you some money in parts(and labor, if they are close, and you ask nicely)
they seem to be a little slower there, than here on maxima.org, but like I said, they may give you some insight on a few differences between the rhd and lhd cars.

also, if your engine is like this:

you have the DOHC ve30de.

if it is like this:

it's a SOCH VG30E

as for the color being non-stock, you are making an ASSumption that his car which is not a US model came with the same colors as US maximas. When cars are produced for other places their options and colors are tailored to that area.

I can vouch for the mirrors-being painted thing, I got mine with painted black mirrors(and my car is deffinitely an SE, with a stock 5-speed), but I "fixed" that with heated SE mirrors that are not painted
and how many VEs have you owned?

so, the fact that they said it's a 1993 means it could be an 89-91? explain your way out of that one. besides no white wraps around on the tails so they are 92-94 tails.

late reply.

firstly, thanks for the correction in that i am a 'she' LOL, secondly, bored one night, so thats how i came about this website, so thanx for the re-direction to an Aussie one. i know this wasnt australian, but thought u all seem to know what your on about, and do reply quickly.

as for the engine, a SOHC VG30E ? ... tell me more?

the colour... pretty sure im going to have to say it has been re-PAINTED!

Its also definately a 93.

The price in 1995 when i bought it $5,000...i did do a little research before i purchased it, and average paying price at that time in AUST was between i think $4,800 and $6,000.

My ENGINE .....and OMG does it need a clean!!!!!!!.....just ignore that!!! LOL

Will anything about the inside tell you guys more? i will get more pics asap.

cheers

Can you get me a close up picture of this relay box arrowed in the pic please? I would like to see the marking(words) on the top of the box, and a inside of the box picture..

Reason being, this relay box is, to my knowledge only found on the 92-94 maxima SE with the VE30DE dohc engine, it contains the relay to the ignition coils on the ve engine, while the vg30e engine does not have this type of coil setup, i have never seen a vg based 3rd gen maxima with one of these relay boxes. Which leads me to believe this car has had a after factory engine swap, or nissan has done some waaay different things with non usdm(united states domestic market) maximas..

i have one on my 91, it is just covered by the overflow tank

cassjane: if you would write the engine and transmission types from the silver plate on the firewall, that would answer the question of an engine swap or not.
we are slightly curious about your car, becuase it has SE wheels, black (not chrome) window trim, but has a vg engine, body colored mirrors and no spoiler,...and is a 93

fine fine you win.

somehow i was thinking canada, not austraila... overseas, i think all of the cars had sawblades? cuz Wiking has a 93 VG and he has sawblades too... and you could get a factory spoiler on a GXE as well.

weird... it's got VE tails, bumper rear foglights.. schweet nissan emblem on the trunk.. clear corners..

is all that stuff original? are all the other maximas like yours? as far as tail light style, emblems, colors of plastics and whatnot?

oh and uh.. if the horn relay and wiper relay are over on the side... can you take a pic of the cap/relays in the 2-row relay box in front of the battery? just curious to see what else is different

on and i definitely like that color! very clean car.. hope you keep it and enjoy it for years to come

Well Cassandra, you definitely have a unique 3rd gen. Take a look around the forum for 3rd gen vg30e modifications, and use search for any questions about the car until you can start a thread(15 posts)

And don't forget to post some nice pics in the Great 3rd gen picture thread.

don't be a stranger.

The fog lights are just for show...they arent hooked up, and have no electrics to hook upto. ...i havent seen any maxima's like mine around yet..majority have spoilers, and when they dont, they are a completely different model. im not sure whats orginal etc on mine, this is why im here, but im guessing it is different as others dont appear to be the same. I will definately take more notice now.

the color is different..i like it..hard to keep clean but still nice.
i will take some pics later, but going by the time on this site, it'll be late tonight for you guys, so thats why im slow. haha

i will start a thread, just getting my head around all this, not sure how this site works.

So as for my car.....is it an SE model? with GXE mods? are the engines the same? How many hp does mine have?

you've got a GXE. all 89-91 had the VG engine, but they split it in 1992 and gave all SE's the DOHC VE engine, and kept the VG in the GXE models. they also gave all of the VE engines a special traction aid called VLSD, which prevents one wheel from spinning on ice while the other sits still (or rain, or aggressive driving). No VG models, not in the US anyhow, got VLSD. In order to get a manual tranny, you had to have an SE, although either VE or VG manual WILL fit a GXE (I, for exmaple, have a VE manual hooked up to my VG30E engine). Keep an eye on your transmission... the VG auto had a tendency not to be quite as robust as the VE automatic.

you have 160hp (119KW, 162 PS) and 182ft/lb of torque (246 Nm)

yea, that's kindof what i think they did. Tho, Wiking has 89-91-SE-style tails on his 93 VG..... and sawblades. Note also that there is no chrome trim on her car...

wiki says they only had the auto with the VG engine in aussie, also the europe models were 3.0, 3.0 S and 3.0 SE, so maybe its one of those, 3.0 S or just a 3.0, such lil differences in diff countries, do the side markers work? or are they for show like the rear fogs?

cassandra... that silver plate on the firewall, just below the wiper arm... has a few numbers on it

I was wondering... What is your code similar to HRJ30DAEU (the D and U might be different on yours), and also what is your code similar to RE4F02A
