speed sensor or cluster

ok haven't been here in a while but mainly due to no money for parts. I saved up bought new injectors and my 92 gxe auto is running good. my speedometer stopped working along with the odometer. i changed the cluster (wanted white faced gauges anyway) and still no luck. there are no codes on my ecu 55 all the way and the only thing i can think is the speed sensor and wouldn't it set off a code if it was bad?

unplug the speed sensor and see if the car behaves any different. Also, does cruse control currently work?

Ok I checked the wiring, and its all good. Is there a way to test the sensor without removing it because it seems like its realy hard to get to? Also anyone who has removed this tell me how/what size it was because space is limited in there.

if your cruise works, its the wiring, if not, its probably the speed sensor.
I am assuming you checked fuses?

speedometer fuse? i would think that all the dash is hooked up together on one fuse and all the other stuff on the dash works. am i wrong? going to go hop in the car and go down the road and see if the cruise works.

still, cant be too sure, unless they are all (meaning every single one) gets checked.

1. it probably is the speed sensor.
2. before you replace it, it sometimes has a plastic/rubber plug on the top that pops up and causes it to fail. if you push that plug back down it may work again. Cheaper than a new sensor.

Good news is the OP can enjoy his new sexah SE gauges instead of the plainjane GXE ones.
