Having trouble getting 91 GXE to get power

Hey guys i've been having troubles getting my maxima to get some juice. Here is what is going on:

Two summers ago, the car was sitting for a while and we charged up the battery and took the car around the block for a test drive (because the new owners were going to pick it up the following night). During the drive, we rolled down the windows, used the radio. We left the windows creaked down a little bit when we shut off the car, and then we tried to fire it up the next day, but to no avail.

Since then we haven't really tried anything but let it sit. It has been about 1 1/2 years since we got it to run, but we have tried to charge the battery again and put it in.

Here is what we got:

The corner lights will turn on 1st try, when we got in the car made the ringing sound. When trying to turn on the headlights, they would not turn on it. The second time trying to turn on the corner lights, they would not turn on. This is now a project car and it'd be really nice if it could start and we could find the problem.

Thanks a lot,
Mike

maybe needs a new battery again, too, if its been sitting this long.

Thanks for the help guys, here is what i've done so far:

Checked all the fuses are working properly with a meter. I'm charging the battery again (This battery was bought brand new when we originally could not start it, so about 1.5 years ago.) There is some corrosion on the positive battery cable so i will clean that off. Hope that I can get this baby to start tomorrow.

Any further advice or/and help is appreciated.

Thanks again,

Mike

I still think the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.
if the battery was left attached, it probably sucked the battery dry (electrically) and killed the battery by just sitting there.

correct, I have seen it before (I30#1) car sat for a couple of years and the battery was so shot, that even with a jump I did start the car, but it would die at the end of the driveway. Put in a new battery and viola' the car ran great.

The battery was not left connected, and was only bought because we were going to sell the car. I really do not see how it could possibly be the battery and I do not have a problem with buying another new battery but is there something, possibly, that could be the cause of this car hardly getting electricity? There seems to be some sort of block or open circuit that is preventing the car from getting electricity.

there are multiple fusible links you can check out.
does the car have/had an alarm?
I would disconnect ANY sort of anti-theft system. (I30#1 had that issue too.) So did VE#1 with the factory anti-theft system.

Did your VE and I30 start before and then suddenly die as well? Everything has been so puzzling and I haven't had time to deal with it until now. Thanks for the tips - i'll give them a go tomorrow (weather permitting)

Honestly, with your battery sitting for that long without any activity, just replace it. That, or take it to an auto parts store and have it load tested, but more than likely it's going to fail.

Have you tried hooking up jumper cables just to test the electrical systems? You also haven't mentioned whether or not you've ever tried to jump it to see if it'll start, that's really one of the first things you should've done.

Hello,

Yes we did try to jump it from my 4th gen initially when the car would not start, but we still could not get the car to start.

Thanks,

Mike

Have you tried swapping in the good battery from your A32?

Hello thanks for the quick reply,

Yes we tried that before but it did not help (before we bought the new battery, and when the car would not start). However I guess it seems like we can try it again.

Thanks,

Mike

Jumped the car today with the A32 and that baby started after a few minutes of trying.
Damn it was real good hearing that thing come back to life.

Before this, however, we put the old battery back in and we got nothing, no clicks no lights nothing.

And after about 20 minutes when we shut off the car, it would not start again with another jump. So i am seeing that the real culprit is the battery in the max (3rd gen). Is that a good presumption?

Thanks a lot guys!
Mike

That would be like the first thing you check when a car doesnt start. Especially after sitting a while. Like others have told you the battery is and was the problem. Replace it.

Today we purchased a new battery, and the car still would not start and/or get power. When the car is hooked up to the A32, then the car will get power. The car would not jump again, but the engine would try to turn over. I noticed that on one attempt there was white smoke that looked like it came out of the intake (behind the driver side headlight). The key is stuck in the ignition now. What gives?

Thanks,
Mike
