Probably not a good thread for this section. Might want to try your respective gen section and searching. Plenty of info out there.

What engine do you have? VG or VE?

If you have a VG I dont think those TQ #s are even possible to put down to the ground with just bolt ons (some one with real 3rd gen experience step in and correct me if I'm wrong on that) I'm sure with Z32 cams and pistons it would get closer to it, but that would break the $1000 budget.

Nitrous. Under a grand, lots of cheap (relatively) power.

For 1 Z32 cams will not go in a VG. Number 2 pistons won't do any good.

Best thing would be your basic bolt ons. UDP Flywheel Y-pipe. with the nitrous. Also if your an auto look into a 5spd swap.

Best bang for the buck. warp speed y-pipe.
Questions such as this are best asked in the Noobs area!

NAWZ. The big ones. Two of 'em.

Want to go fast for $1000? Sell your Maxima. Take that money and the extra $1000 and buy american iron.

pretty much what I was going to say.
I was going to be more specific and say an LT1 powered F-body or B-body if you need the 4 doors or want a wagon.

Quickest and cheaper option, what burhan92SE said, but that option is a limited horizon. If you wanted to spend more money later on forced induction, then a VQ swap would be the way to go, as BenStoked said. The VQ30DE will hold up better under pressure of forced induction, not to mention it will last longer, and of course, newer technology is always better.

Little mods if you dont plan on doing much more to it.
Engine swap if you want to take it further one day.

Still, there's no replacement for displacement. Every 3.0 engine has its limits.
