IVT torq specs?

Does anyone know the torq specs for the three bolts on the IVT?

I had a timing job done, and the gaskets were destroyed. Put two new ones on, only to have them **** oil. I am also getting a timing chain clatter/tick which I believe is caused by the low oil pressure. Also got a cam position sensor code twice. I cannot find the torq specs anywhere.

When I had the IVT off there was legit a piece of RTV totally blocking one of the oil passages. Made sure to pull that bugger out.

it's in the factory service manual. not that you'd ever bother to read it.

It find it hilarious that the guy that is doing everything backwards and ignorning the proper way to do anything, or the way engineers desinged things, is bothering with a torque spec at all.

Why dont you just make one up like you design everything you do, get stoned, think of a number, and torque it to that. It'll probably definately be better than they engineered it to be torqued anyways.

please have a heart and help me tuner.. theres no reason to respond that way. I do not have a factory service manual.

EDIT: I called nissan, its 87-112 inch pounds. do not use a FT pound torque wrench! mush be inch!

Thanks for nothing you scumbucket. I would have helped you with 0 hesitation. Shows who holds a grudge.

No torque specs mentioned, and that means not needed, just snug them.

Also, not sure why there would be RTV on the IVT's. Or was so much applied, they seeped out from the timing cover?

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Maxima/2003/em.pdf Pages 45-46.

I think some RTV got loose when doing the cover. It was black RTV, factory is greyish white. Its odd they do not have torque specs. The guy at nissan seemed to know exactly what I was speaking of

ty for that link btw

Update on the issue:

I have had my buddy install the two cam actuator gaskets (IVT solenoid gaskets), we torqued to 95 inch pounds, as this is right in between what nissan recommended when I called.

On first startup there was noticeable chain rattle, it was the classic cold start rattle for two or three seconds.

It then continued to rattle as the car idled. I took it to 2500K quick to see what the result would be, it rattled, then kinda stopped

Once the engine was warm the chain stopped clicking and I had another classic tensioner sound, it was a wooshing, not very audible

It was at this point we took the car around my block slowly, it ran fine. After a few minutes we tested the variable timing by taking it to 4K, then to almost redline 6K ish. Car seemed back to normal.

Checked for new oil spills, none found. I had an entire qt shoot out yesterday when burst revving!

It appears I had a combination of problems. Both IVT solenoid gaskets appear to have been leaking. Also the solenoid oil passage on the front was clogged with RTV.. that cant be good!

I think my issue is resolved, it appears oil was not making it to the tensioner and air was getting in

I hope this helps anyone who has a cam sensor code.. my issue was not the sensor at all!

I do have a question, I had all my oil leak out when driving, I snapped a pic. Does anyone know if all this oil can possibly be from the IVT gasket? or do I have another leak somewhere?

I dont want to drive and have all the erl leak out in 50 miles. although i kinda dont have a choice, I need a car. hopefully this will help others who are getting similar issues

(top right is the front valve cover)

After everything, it looks like i am going to have to replace the motor.

the timing chain ticks at idle, sometimes when starting from 0. but seems to go silent when driving 40MPH.

still have an oil leak, dont know from where.

this is a really crappy day.. time to price vq35

I have no idea what would cause such a thing

Sucks about the engine man.

It is kind of funny though. I spent months reading people criticize you and you respond like they are dumb and then you are shocked as you replace engine.

nothing I did caused this. I did not do the work. someone else did.

my car ran perfectly and more efficiently with all the mods I did, please stop hating and lets move on. it was personal preference and I saw gains with each mod. to each their own.

I speak with logic, thats why I question everyone

I have looked at this engine:
http://www.automotix.net/usedengines...66166643l.html

will this be a smooth transition? my cars an auto, would this one work? its an 04 engine

please will someone try to help me? this is a serious matter, my life is on hold and I cant get a job without a car

we can argue later, but for now, please help

I'd remove the timing cover, verify timing marks, and also remove the VC covers and check for VT damage.

And meticulously button it up, after that, check compression and everything else you would when doing that.

Have you bothered to check and see how much it would cost to get that Canadian Engine to you? Pesky things like Duties, Customs and International freight have a way of telling you to

I see you edited your post last night to show an American Engine from an 03, with 126K on the clock.

For 1300 bucks, tell them to stuff themselves. You can get a motor directly from Japan, with HALF that mileage, for less money.

Or just find someone parting out a VQ35 HERE on the classifieds and save money that way.

You will not continue to get spoonfed, little one. You need an engine...find an engine. Look it up and find how much they go for...look up what the swap entails...look up the troublesome 03-04 oil-burning issues these early VQ35's tend to have...

Amazing he still doesn't get it. I guess you can't really fix stupid...or, in this case, stubbornness.

ooh boy there's more than one.

He uses dryer vent as a CAI...he thinks adding tons of "grounds" makes his car go epic faster... he advises hacking up the VIAS...

That should sufficiently answer your question.

When he is faced with FACTS he calls everyone ******* and queers and haters. Now in another spastic thread of his (this one) he wonders why he needs a new engine...

Thank you for this.
Easy for me to show off how much logic he actually has.
I question his ability to question anything.
