A Rat Ate On My Plug Wires

Check this out! A Rat ate some of my Spark plug wires down to the fabric shield. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I guess a lady let her rats out, I saw one run in front of me one night, it shocked me cause rats are not common around here. Before i taped them I took this photo with my phone. He also ate some on my grounding wire down to the copper. I'm pretty sure this is all he ate on, I hope, but all seems fine.

Do you know who it is? go up to her and make her pay for it.

I could see it happening. cats get killed inside cars... and they're even bigger.

That's hilarious. Do those wires even taste good?

I would check behind your rear seats (remove them), my car sat for a yr and there was a rats nest (rats were gone) behind the seats in the rear.

Have no idea how he got in.

this happened to a friend of mine a few years ago. she bought the new altima when it came out and within a week she started to have problems. i started feeling bad because i recommended the altima to her. she kept taking it back and the techs at nissan couldn't find the problem. the third time, they discovered some chewed hoses and wires. why they didn't see it the first 2 times, i don't know. apparently, she parked her car outside and some rats got into the engine bay. i don't think they actually eat it, but they love chewing on rubber for some reason.

In the winter they like to stay warm by the engine, I know this because in my old integra after A cold night in the morning I would pop the hood and notice bones on the engine cover, it only happend twice but the second time I didint pop the hood one morning and A few days later I found grease stains on the cover it was nasty to clean up. Rats chewing wires is weird, I would tie A street cat to one of my tires if that helps

around here it is fairly common for squirrels to eat wires. they do seem to be preferential to fords though.

Rodents need to chew on things because it keeps their teeth from overgrowing. Hence why they chew on rubber wires.

Any place there's rodents and cars sitting for a while, you're going to have rats nests and chewed wires/hoses.

My parents have spent thousands over the years repairing that kind of stuff on their cars. (they live in the country)...

Who let the rats out??? Who? Who? Who? Who? Who let the rats out???

Replace you cat (converter), that will stop it from happening again.

O.K I'll stop.
But Seriously, I didn't know this stuff happens. I live in an Urban Area. (You may have seen it in movies), I do notice rats under the tracks of the Metro Rail Blue Line, but I only seen them run and hide; never would guess that they'll chew automobile parts.

For those who never never been to Compton, Cali can see it in a movies. Boyz in the Hood, Menace to Society, heck recognized many scenes in the music video "Compton" that was played on MTV and BET, I forgot what rapper.

(It's not a bad place, but it has it moments)

But I diverge. The reason why I said this is because I never heard about this happening to vehicle because I live in a urban area. But since squirrels were mentioned to do this too, I wouldn't have known this also because Compton doesn't have squirrels, or a very low population of them.

My cousins' GXE's engine bay got all torn up from rats. He lives in a pretty rural area compared to where I live so I guess that's more common? The hood insulation was all torn to hell and it had started to chew through the ignition wire and IIRC some thin ground wire. Never had any problems with any rodents in/on/hitting my car as of yet so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the neighborhood stray cats are keeping everything at bay.

Long live Eazy-E.

I think i'm going to have to drop a bomb for you maxima guys here - and upload a compton CD you guys can blast in your maximas. After all, the 3rd gen was THE epitome of a drug dealers car in the early 90's.

Remember the black 3rd gen in Menace II Society?

I've found mice still attached to telephone wiring in which they were nibbling on the polyurethane casing, I guess.... getting high? When suddenly they were shocked to death by an incoming call (135Volts) and they never were able to let go of it. To bad you couldn't send some 40,000 secondary voltage thru one of their mouths so we could see one of them explode....

I've had it happen. It sucks. After much research I found placing a couple of moth ***** in the engine bay drove them away and kept them out.
