Opinion on aftermarket speaker grills?

I just replaced all the old Bose stuff in my Max. I put some Pioneer 6x9's in the back and thought it would look good with the grills that came with it. So I snatched out the stock Bose grills, drilled some new holes and screwed 'em in. After I finished, I took a step back and just wasn't as enthused as I thought I would be.

My question is: Do you guys think it looks tacky with aftermarket grills?

Here are a few pics. Not completely done with install, hence missing pieces.

I think they'll look better when I paint 'em black to match future color scheme.

I agree that painting them black might look better. IMHO as they are they don't look bad, just a little out of place if that makes sense.

I prefer the bose covers but I'm rarely a fan of aftermarket speaker grills

I like the fact that it looks stock. My entire system is aftermarket, but the only thing you can see is the HU. Well, the stuff in the trunk if you open the trunk, but not parked.

I do need to get some separates and mount the tweeter somewhere. I think I have been saying that for 4-5 years now.

I have been wanting the same thing up front. you think the stock location for the tweeters on a 4th gen would work well for our cars?

I see what you guys are sayin'. The stock grills do look a little cleaner and I hate to fall into what ticks me off about some mods: tackiness. They'll stay on there for a few days tho cuz I'm a lazy bastard.

I don't think I have to worry about anyone stealin' my stuff in the meantime. That kinda stuff is uncommon around here. It's ironic, me sayin' that, cuz I bought this car right after the prev. owners recovered it stolen .

I already have some Bose covers, BTW, Greeny. Thanks for the offer tho.

I appreciate the input, fellas.

doesn't matter with mine, I have "gangster" tint in the back (5%) can't see anything even if you cup your hand around your eyes and peer in.

I agree. Its bad enough people can hear my bass a block away. I try to hide as much equipment/upgrades I possibly can.

When you paint them black I think they will blend in better and will look nice tho. They look a bit out of place because of the color.

Agreed. I plan to recover the back deck with a black fabric also (possibly velvet?) so it'll be somewhat inconspicuous.

Velvet? it will fade very fast in the rear window i would think. stocks are great the aftermarket just look out of place in most car 99.59% but its your ride good luck

I was hoping someone would comment on that. I dunno what I'm gonna use yet, but its currently an ugly dark blue so it's gotta go. Hate to spend money on a new deck so I'm just gonna recover the one I have. Do you know where I can buy some OEM type fabric?

feels like speaker fabric to me... find some black or gray speaker carpet to use, shouldn't be too hard to find.

I want too much for it, so I am pretty sure it won't sell. I still add things now and then if I find something I want cheap enough. If someone really wants to cough up the money, it's just that much more stuff they get.

I have a friend that works at a stereo shop and I keep threatening to buy some separates from him. Plus, I need to find an old school sub amp. My current amp is underpowered. It sounds OK now, but I need more power and I can use my rear two channels for the Polks I put in the rear not too long ago.

What about felt, i used that on my rustang some years ago to take away some of the tinny sounds i was getting from the 20 odd year old speakers. worked well and its way way cheaper than velvet. wal-mart has it
