round 2500-3000 for that setup maybe cheaper, cus these are prices quoted to me for my 92 ve 5spd and its more work to put it on the ve than the vg

You can turbo anything, as like as you fortify the weaknesses, whether it be the oiling system, the head bolts or the bottom end...Deep pockets can make anything happen. I just saw a 09 Turbo'd Honda Fit 3 hrs ago while at work. It nearly blew my mind! It'll probably turn into another giant killer like so many Hondas before it....

I dont think anyone is surprised this guy turboed his 3rd gen, just interesting since this guy (as far as I know) isn't on the org. This is a repost of his youtube video though.
No deep pockets are needed to turbo a VG as they came in some cars already turbo. This means you can pick up a set of turbo manifolds that will bolt right up, and oil/coolant lines for a turbo are on all VG blocks. Or just pick up a turbo motor and drop it in your car. Even a VG with a turbo slapped on a stock block can make way more power than the trans can handle, so your weak point isnt in the engine.

I have seen this before, but I can't remember when it was.

From the looks of it, it has a lot more work than just adding a turbo.

It is a cool Max, definitely has a lot of work into it. If that were mine, I would find a way to hide that huge intercooler, though.

I thought this as well.

He has a car domain that shows his whole process.

It went from a regular max to turbo'd in like 2 years or something like that. He said it was his first car he got when he was in high school and decided to turbo it.

He also said he spent a year just gathering all the parts and researching about it..so he's got some serious stuff done to it..eventhough this is like years ago, it's still an awesome video/set-up

That is joeboost car. Very clean car he is on the org. You can get that kind of power without even building bottom end the vg is a very strong motor. Just look at the girdle. I will see this spring when get 2 dyno. I should be upper 300s with Stock motor with 79k on it.

i meant mine's mileage, with over 400,000km on my 92 it would suck to put $5000 of mods into it and have the transmission or engine go from age. if mine had 200,000km or less i would mod the heck out of it

yeah, but his engine is no where near old, at all. it has been completely built. and there is no way he could have used an auto; it would have died about 100hp ago (and I checked, he has a 5-speed). so for $5000, you could easily replace the engine, transmission (swap a 5-speed), and lightly turbo it. And either an engine rebuild, or a trans swap would be a relatively easy upgrade.

(edit: I can also guarintee he didnt have a $5000 budget on that build.)

I miss driving my maxima LOL. joeboost in on z31performance too. He has the 5speed non lsd i believe, ive talked with him before about it, back when i was going to get a lsd trans but the car got crushed...................

if you find a turbo 300zx for like 500-1000 bucks and if you have access to a welder you can turbo your max for 500-1000+ odds and ends, custom mount, oil pan return, everything else will bolt up. I have no clue if the z31 turbo ecu will work in the maxima. can probably nistune the stock maxima ecu.

I have two turbo maximas. One using z31 manifolds. You can find the thread under my thread in 3rd gen forum. Working on a cardomain link for this might work on writeup. I am using just an fmu stock injectors for now. My other setup is custom manifolds. I am running nistune with it. The Stock z31 ecu will work on a 2nd gen max I belive. Would have to ask Big_E-Dog I belive he is using one.

Yea I know Big_E-Dog, but I think the 3rd gen is obdo or something like that, im not familiar with their ecus, I have just driven mine.

I have nistune and its a very easy system to install and use. Nistune's site says the type one board(which is whats in my Z), will work on the j30 maxima(vg30e), which I assume is the 3rd gen maxima.

http://www.nistune.com/boards.htm

I was thining about turbo'ing mine as I have a spare turbo manifold, friends that have welders, free time, hopefully a manual trans that works, a spare turbo. I have spare turbo ecus from z31s, but I doubt they would work unless I swaped in a z31 harness, which im not going to do. If I got nistune for it, it would be the most expensive thing. Nistune is the most expensive mod on my Z31.

thats the most common (minus nistune) method of turboing a max. not too sure what ecu setup is used, but I am sure there are threads about threads here on turbo ecu options.
edit: i think a jwt ecu is the most common, but not too sure. don't wanna boost my max right now, so I don't care too much.

I think nistune would be best, I think jwt is a waste of money(now days, if you can still buy the stuff new). I wouldnt be looking at making a race car, just something with some umph to woop up on some v8 mustangs when the laugh at my beat up car(needs a hood, 1 fender, 2 bumpers, a door, and a paint job, suspension).

although I love the sound of the exhaust on my maxima as it sits, I want to gut the cat so see how it sounds after that, it has stock exhaust, putting a turbo on it takes the sound away. A non turbo vg sounds good, kinda like a vq35.

If I could get my maxima to sound like these non turbos, I would not want to go turbo. ive been offtopic and am going even more off topic, but, has any one ever done headers on a vg30e maxima?

Nistune is nice but pricey. I did have to send my ecu back because recived it and did not work corretly. If you changed to a z31 engine harness I don't see why a z31 ecu wouldn't work.

i honestly dont know what model the muffler is. borla made a Cat-Back system for a few years for the Z31s and i managed to find one. the cat is a Magnaflow high-flow

well I never bought the software and installed the chip myself, so im only out 170 bucks, and my friend has the software, yea you will end up paying over 300 if you get the software too and dont chip it yourself.

On the supra on the original fast the furious, it had a 2000 dollar Borla exhaust on it. Borlas sound so good.
