chrome or tuner rims?

Hey just wanted to get some opinions on rims, im looking to buy some right away with spring fast approaching, they'll go on my 92 maxima se, i got it lowered on tokico blues and B&G's already, about a 1.6 inch drop all around, what do you guys like? tuner rims? ive been looking at some 18's with gold gloss as my ride is getting a black paint job right away or even black gloss, or what about chrome rims? i think they diff between the 2 looks is huge, i know it only matters what i like but id like to see what you guys think since you also own the same car and most of you have rims as well, let me know what you all think..

I think chrome looks tacky. part of the reason I am glad I don't have a gxe (the stock 5 is a bonus)
I also don't recommend 18's; get something smaller, such as 17s , even tho I still highly recommend 16s (not enough sidewall, otherwise).
with a black paint, I recommend gunmetal, gray, or black. even the silver ones look good (see my profile pic).

If you live in a place with bad roads, stick with 16s. otherwise, I prefer 17s. NO BIGGER.
and chrome sucks. chrome on a 20 yr old car just screams wannabe ghetto.

on our cars, the classic 5 spoke look does well. it's an old school car- don't put new skool ricer rims on it.

That's your personal opinion. Mine is that 18s are too big for the body lines.

the reason i wanted 18's was i wanted my rims to tuck a bit, i like that look, but the roads here aren't the best so i'm not sure what ill get in size, i dont think i could go lower than 17's otherwise whats the point

tucking doesn't have anything to do with wheel size.

so your looking to do something like this while i dont know the size of the wheels but this is a tuck without airbags and thats one hell of a slam without bags

i agree with everyone in here with not liking chrome. i can't stand chrome. this is why im removing all the chrome off my GXE and replacing them with SE black trim. as for rims go with tuner rims. don't go for chrome. chrome is just way too tacky for our 3rd gens and they are too heavy. i've seen some 3rd gens where i live and they look like straight @ss. either tuner rims or some other factory spec wheels will be good. i had 17's but got tired of them so i opted for the Infiniti FX35 18x8 rims which i have on the car now. so tuner all the way my friend. but to each his own. remember its your car and you could do whatever you want. we are just here to give our opinions and guide each other on things like this.

so ya...

what should i be looking at to get the tuck that i want? you mentioned it doesnt have anything to do with wheel size matt, can you elaborate? im not looking to drop my car anymore than it is, thx for everyones opinions..

also, im running oem size winter tires on stock rims which is 205/65r15 i believe and with the drop i cant get a finger in anywhere, im looking for more of a tuck which is why i figured bigger tires would do the trick

moving on with life......

how the wheel fits in the fender well has more to do with wheel width and offset and tire size, as well as your suspension setup.

The lower the car or the larger the tire, the farther up in the fender well the tires will sit. (which is the general opinion of 'tuck')..
but going with a larger diameter tire throws off your speedo and causes rubbing inside the fenders and such, which gets bad when you go too big.

a good bet for a wheel/tire combo is to go with a 17x8" wheel with 30-35mm offset. then use a 235/45/17 tire. it'll fit like the ones in these pics, although your ride height may be just a bit different (I'm on a custom suspension, but about where the Eibachs run..)

wow 235's huh, i figured that would rub, if i went with 235/40 or 45/18 would i need the same offset? would i get rubbing?

i like urs on 17's and mine would tuck a bit more because i believe mines a bit lower, but i got these 18's on a good deal if i want them so i may just have to go with them

I don't think these look poorly sized on the car Matt. These are 235/18. They do cry for a BBK tho.

With a 35mm offset, you should be fine with a 235/40/18. Maybe even wider, but I dunno- I haven't put 18s on mine for experience. I've run up to a 255 in the back and a 275/40/17 up front before. the 275 rubbed on the fenders though, so I wouldn't go that far again. anything wider than 235 and you'll need to roll the fenders in the back.

If you like the 18s, go for it. your car, your style. just make sure they're the right offset and width.
