Trouble Replacing Light
Trouble Replacing Light
My side light exploded on collision (pic below) and I found a car which has the missing light. Thing is, they said I can only have the light if I can remove it myself.
So I thought, heyyyy.. i'm gonna practice on my car first before I go over there. BUT, good thing I started practicing 1st because as it turns out: I'm having no luck removing the Light.
I came to the conclusion that I've gotta remove the front light first to get to it right? I tried turning the little white *** thingy to get the light out. but not much is going on. If anyone has experience removing that side light, please let me know where you went from here. I'm really bad at working with cars but I'm trying to learn as fast as I can.
I searched around the forum for a, "how to replace front blinker lights (above bumper) but couldn't find much. Any guidance would be appreciated.
(1st Pic shows the little **** I was talking about)

This 2nd pic, is my car and is where the light is going to go (that I've gotta remove from another car)

You have to get pliers and pop the grille tabs out of the holes on the little arms on the headlight bracket.
Thanks the for reply! If we look at the 2nd picture I posted (above). well those those 2 gray bolts in my above posting. You can't actually get to those bolts till you remove the entire black Light Casing (which houses the Front Main Lights) As for the 2 nuts near the radiator.. I think I found them are these it?

Concerning this I have no idea what you're talking about lol.. but that's the last step anyways so I guess I don't have to worry about that yet.

the grille just has some clips on it that go into the black headlight bracket.. you'll notice that you can't remove the headlight off cuz it's still attached to the grille.. you'll know what i'm talking about after you get those 2 bolts and 2 nuts off.
the long one, no. that's an adjuster. the top one yes.. and look further down for another one just like the top one.

And damn.. my tools are terrible. Those bolts are slightly rusted. I guess I should head over to a tools store or something. I need a like a car toolbox for cheap.
Unless you're talking about the 2nd bolt connected to that blank thing I have no idea where that 2nd bolt is. There's 2 bolts connected to this black thing right on the left of those 2 bolts you see in the pic. Those aren't the ones your talking about are they?

You are going to need to take out the top screw that holds in the corner light assembly, it is a phillips head screwdriver or 10mm socket IIRC. Here is the pic:

After that, you need to "pop out" three tabs, they are just plastic pieces that slide into the body somehow; and one is a ball joint type tab- do the tabs going into the fender near the orange part of the light last, when you are doing them, just slide the whole light forward (toward the front of the car) and it will come off...

I can do them like 1 min each or less, you'll see... report back if you can't get the electrical connector

Yeah, it is a regular phillips... looks like that from his post, I think I have mismatched 10mm socket screws in mine. (The one's crawling all over the engine bay)

but yea it's not hard to do. who i have broken them before (the pivot ball i think) so you DO have to be careful with it. and i have broken studs on the headlight bracket too, if one should ever try to remove ones with rusty nuts.

I get that sick feeling in my stomach if I break anything on my car, regardless of how inconsequential.

i'll have to try that lubing trick tho. just something i never really thought to do.
Its fixed now! Thanks guys.
I found the entire unit at a Junk Yard for $20. I was pretty happy with that. Guy wanted $50 to remove it and I was like, nope.. I can remove it myself (with a huge smile on my face thinking about maxima.org).
Thanks!
